I guess I'm fortunate that my husband lived here before. So we don't get into the "showdowns" about that. However, this morning he was just saying how desperate he is to get back and have a normal marriage and work schedule again. Who ever thought that you would look forward to the ho-hum of ordinary life.

Can Trini, I laughed when I saw your post about you hubby resurrecting the frost bitten tomatoes and not trusting the dishwasher. My husband is the same and does the same thing too, except he washes them before we go to bed regardless of how tired we are. Lol

Thanks for your positivity and support

Hi Lexi :D, and you are most welcome. I do think that the spouses that have been here before have one less thing to wrap their heads around and it's true after going through immigration you just want calm and normal. Even if my husband and I are in different rooms watching different TV shows, at least we can run and hug during commercials :P. You cannot get that through SKYPE.

I know our men have their quirks and they know we have ours but it is funny to compare notes sometimes isn't it? Both my husband and I do impressions of each other and one of his favorite ones to do of me is to say - in an abnormally high pitched drawn out voice (which I do not have btw) - "we don't say dat in Canada or we don't do dat in Canada or we don't behave like dat in Canada!!! It makes me laugh every time........cause it's true. But I can also do a pretty good impression of him, so then we do impersonation showdowns!! ;D

Blessings.

The LORD works in mysterious ways! This morning before the email came through, I was talking to my love on the phone telling him I don't know how much longer I could go on with all this and then the email came about 930am....

HALLELUJAH! THERE IS HOPE! :D :D

You are most welcome THOL :) the "my country showdowns" (liking that term) are usually the tip of the iceberg. You are right there are pros and cons to all countries and I find my hubby mostly does that when he is missing home or is trying to assert himself in a situation when he is feeling overwhelmed simply by being so much on "my turf". I actually remember doing that to him in Trinidad when I would go there and feel out of sorts with the heat or too much of his world. I try to see beyond the surface of what he is saying to understand the 2/3 of the iceberg that is below the water. The first week we met I was very honest that I would not move away from Canada on any kind of permanent basis and he was willing to accept that. So I try to be extra sympathetic to the fact that he is the one that made the sacrifice to leave his home, family and friends. I am not always successful in this endeavor though :( so sometimes we "Google" it out.....lol.......but humour is also a great tool to use in any kind of marital showdown, not just the "my country" ones!! Blessings.

:P :P :P It's funny, because I still remember last year when I was telling you all about the country showdowns with my husband and how difficult it was to have him understand that Canada is beautiful too... but now he is here and I have overheard him on MULTIPLE occasions telling people back home: "Wifey told me it was beautiful here and I always argued that there is wasn't possible to be beautiful like the Carribean. It's not beautiful like the Carribean, it's beautiful like Canada and I already love it."

Hubby has also taken to already complaining everytime we have a mini heat wave and looks forward to the colder winds.... We'll see how that tune sounds once winter officially arrives!!!!!!

I'm so happy to hear that your hubby is adjusting well and that you are working through all the tough times. Definitely not easy trying to help them adjust, but worth the work. :-* ;D

Question: looks as though our application is in limbo~ not outland or inland lol how does this happen?!

anyways, trying to figure out our next steps as we do have three children involved and with us at the moment :(

my question being .. when Kingston has asked for a passport, do they normally ask for return postage as well, for some reason I remember reading that they did ask for the return postage when asking for the passport.. could be wrong

thanks!

Also -- has anyone heard of Immigration just "stopping in" like they threaten :) I haven't heard of that yet, so I was curious.

Yes actually. They stopped in to see us 2 years ago to validate he was actually living with me.

Ok, do they also mention this in the letter they send you when they request the passport?

And the worst part was that he was out at the store at the time because I had just had major surgery and could barely move, so they came back after an hour to make sure I was telling the truth

Nini!!!! Happy 2 week anniversary my dear and it was your post from last year I was also thinking about when writing about the country showdowns!! I remember it well because it made me laugh so hard reading it back then and I guess it is a pretty common theme for many of us.

Oh it will be very interesting to see your man in winter ;). I have heard we are in for another bad one this year as well so get snow tires for sure if he wants to attempt driving.

Happy to hear your guy loves it so far. Remind him of that in mid-February :P!! Blessings :-*

Oh wow I had no idea that they actually did that but glad to hear that they do for any of those that are actually not real relationships or scamming the system.
