My hubby has a suitcase of winter clothes that he has used in New York just sitting around so I told him to go throufh it and start on that personal effects list for when this is finally over. I looked at the form and it has a column for the items to be written down and then a column beside it for the value of goods in Canadian $. If I listed things for ex: 5 sweaters, 4 jeans pants, 2 photo albums... what did u right for the values? Are we doing this right? And how do they expect you to know how much u payed for things years ago. UGHHHHH. :-\ ???

When we filled out the form we itemized electronics individually i.e. laptop, smart phone, iPod, etc. with the Canadian value of each and for clothes we didn't itemize them, we simply put 'clothes' with an approximate/guesstimate Canadian value (on the higher end -- rounded up). As for misc. items I would suggest 'guesstimating' again. My hubby brought his great grandfather's harmonica. How are you truly supposed to put a price on that? Maybe we should have put 'priceless' in the value column.

We didn't encounter any problems and I think the Immigration officer was just happy we completed the form because I don't think a lot of people do.
