Well I have 10 days left before my hubby's landing and am getting anxious. I have prepared a lot and there is still a whole bunch to do. When will it all get done? I have no clue but will not be stuck on the 25th cleaning not at all. Even if I have to call in the family to help with the things I really want done like the base boards. I know it may sound like the baseboards as not a big deal but I want everything to be perfect and for hubby to be as comfortable as possible. Especially because I will be required to go in to work the third day he is here.

Anyone have any ideas as to what I can do to make him as comfortable as possible? Also remember reading something about vitamins in a previous post and need to know what to give him as I really don't want him getting sick from the change in environment.

Read through most of your post but there has been a lot since I last read so it will take me a while longer.

Also have a question regarding SIN and HC applications. An anyone tell me if these can be done the day after his arrival or do I have to wait till he receives his PR card before the application can be made?

Dahlia, I saw your question and couldn't help chiming in, seeing as I am a recent arrival. One of the things my husband did for my comfort included the same thing you are doing: a clean, fresh house. He also made sure I had my own "space" in the house, in the form of a chaise where I can relax to read with shelves nearby for me to build a book collection. He added heavy blackout curtains to our bedroom because our windows face northeast and he knows I hate light in my face early in the mornings. There was space for my clothes in the dresser and the closet (in fact, he gave me the entire dresser to myself) and in the bathroom he had already bought little things he knew I would need. All these things signaled to me that I was home, and this is where I belong.

Oh, and he's also stepped back and let me assume control of a lot of things I am used to doing. For example, it was our rhythm when he was in Jamaica that he would cook, and I did the cleanup, and I did laundry because, well I am just OCD about how my clothes are cleaned and cared for, LOL. So we have gone back to that now, and it works well for me so the transition is not causing so much anxiety to me because things are how I am used to them being done, and that is important to me.

Whatever you do will likely end up being totally different from what you see here, but the idea is to know who your spouse is, and do things that recognise what makes them happy and comfortable so they can settle down after such a huge change.

As for SIN and HC, you can apply immediately for those after arrival (we got my SIN the day after I arrived). He will receive a letter with his SIN number, and ON is still mailing out SIN cards for now, so he should get one in the mail about 2-3 weeks later. OHIP does not kick in until 90 days after arrival, but you can still make the application right away.

My husband is a stickler where laundry is conerned so I think he will more than likely take that as his thing. Plus I live the way he does laundry so I will leave him to it if that's what he would like. I plan on getting him a whole new bath set and other little toiletries in the next few days I have a few things already but just feel like I am missing something. And as I type this I remember I am missing his toothbrush and whitening toothpaste that he loves so much. Lol. Don't know why he loves it that much because his teeth are not stained but hey if it is the toothpaste that will make him comfortable then he will have it.

Being the woman I do have a lot of clothes so I have cleaned out as much space as I could so far.

Well it is all going to be a learning experience for me and making the changes and adjustments will be fun. I will be back soon enough to fill you all in on how my preps are going.

Some of the forms require electronic validation to ensure they are complete. What you can do is complete a "draft" set by hand, then enter them on the computer and get the validation done so they have the barcodes which are needed to submit a complete application now.

Just for ppls fyi...as for ohip, as Charlie said, it doesn't kick in for 90 days and you will need to bring passport, copr, AND a proof of residence. Some examples are a Ontario drivers licence, bank account statement, lease etc. Even if you don't have these things right away, don't worry because they back date the 90 days to day of arrival. So you have some time to sort those things out.

No, that's not an AOR (Acknowledgement of Receipt) that's a PPR (Passport Request) that signals approval from KG. You know you're basically approved when you are requested to submit your passport (provided your medical is still current) or to re-do your police records and medicals (if you have been in processing for more than a year since you had them done).

Of course, sometimes they request passports and sit on them for months, in which case they might be pursuing background checks on the person's movements. Other times, they might just plain get it wrong and request it, then conclude they need to do additional checks and return it, or some other reason known only to KG. They are human, after all. Sometimes.

Of course, sometimes they request passports and sit on them for months, in which case they might be pursuing background checks on the person's movements. Other times, they might just plain get it wrong and request it, then conclude they need to do additional checks and return it, or some other reason known only to KG. They are human, after all. Sometimes.

WOW! so does the 82 days mean that's how long it takes to get approved (supposedly) and technically we wouldn't know when our documents are transferred to Kingston until they ask for PPR etc. I am trying to figure out the wait because all this time I was thinking I was waiting on an AOR which would then lead to an approval but it doesn't work that way.

How long does an approval take for Kingston? (estimate) since we don't get AOR's
