The board is busy today. I likes

Charlie happy to see you back as the advisor on the board. How you enjoying Canada so far

LOL, tintin79! I had a quiet day today, hubby has been hanging with his boys all day, so I had the house to myself and therefore have been around. I am loving it so far, one week in. I think I almost have a routine going, and so far as paperwork is concerned we have everything done except my bank account which we deal with tomorrow.

I love that you can make appointments to get things done at the bank, I gave Scotiabank in Kingston a piece of my mind for always wasting my time making me wait long to do things that take 10 minutes, when if I had an appointment I could come in on a specific day and time and know that someone was prepared to deal with me immediately. Here, there are no lines for anything (except checkout at the grocery store, woohoo for small towns!) but still they let you make an appointment to do your business at a convenient time. Gotta love it.

I am also loving that it is 9:30 at night and it is light outdoors! I had forgotten how much I enjoyed that particular feature of being north of the tropics. :)

Thats nice Charlie. Very happy for you. You'll actually find out later on that everything can be done online. I can't tell you the last time I actually went to a bank and stood in line. And every bill can be paid online. I love computers.

Come December we'll see if you like Canada's crazy winter

Hubby didn't believe me that it stays light out that late in the evening lol

Yep, I'm all for online banking, as soon as it came in in Jamaica, I was all over it. The only thing I couldn't pay that way was my rent and I always kept trying to convince my landlords to accept bank transfers, but they all wanted cash. :P

As for winter...well, I'd rather be cold than hot. First I need to get through the summer. From what I remember of the one I went through in NY, I hated the heat and humidity. :o

Since I see my previous post was deleted let me clarify for anyone who may need this info. Welfare/social assistance payments are provincial NOT federal and cannot be reclaimed on your taxes since welfare payments are not taxable income. Only unemployment benefits such as EI, or for example school loans like osap or training programs which are federally funded can be claimed or garnished. I however only have accurate knowledge for Ontario, not any other province. Only being in receipt of welfare at the time of sponsorship makes you ineligible. You have to submit a option c printout or notice of assessment which is free of welfare payments, which while they are non taxable, they do report the payments to revenue Canada. The only way an overpayment of welfare would be an issue if the overpayments were made in the same time frame as you submit the application to sponsor, which in turn would mean you are in current receipt of welfare. So overpayments from yrs previous can't count :) Hope that make sense :)
