So nobody has received an update this week? That makes me sad

I always look forward to see everyone's updates because they give me hope and an idea of a time line. I just don't understand what the IO's are doing with these files.

Do you think my application will go through quicker because I've lived several years with my husband in Jamaica....and we both have jobs to go to in Canada???

Hi SmoothiesQueen,

From what I have seen from previous members having lived in Jamaica does not speed up the process of your application and having a job in canada either... The IO (immigration officer) will most likely perceive the relationship has being genuine more easily has you guys lived together in Jamaica in the past or currently not sure... So in other words you may not need as much evidence as someone that has never lived with the person...

I believe that when the canadian citizen or permanent resident does the application and they are abroad with the applicant they must prove that they intend to come to canada so I am guessing that employment will be a good reason to return but I have never seen someone get through sooner because of that.

I must also add that appllication are dealt with in order in which they were received. This is what Immigration Canada states but it doesn't mean that your application may not have a processing time shorter than another application which could mean that your application may be done processing before someone that filed before you.

I just want to add that everything that I have said are based on previous members and knowledge that I have acquired by dealing with Immigration canada for the past almost 9 months... So I am hoping that other fellow forum friends will add to what I have said or correct me if I am wrong I hope this helps ;D

I have a question. Does anyone know where in Jamaica I go to get my husband and daughter their medical exams? Do I have to have one to as I live here...might be a silly question but I think when it comes to immigration...better to ask and look dumb then not ask and miss something!!

Thats the last thing I have to do....get the medical exams. Waiting on the police certificate to. Hopefully it will arrive soon.

No question is a silly question smoothiequeen... all this immigation stuff is at times very overwhelming and rather play safe then to mess it up...

As per the medical here is the link of doctors you can go see for your husbands and daughters medical and you would not need a medical as you are already a citizen or permanent resident I am assuming???

I must add that you have to pay between 150$ cad to 300$ cad for the medical exams and you do not get the results

My husband paid approximatly 10 000$ JM

One piece of advise that I can give you is wait as long as you can before you do the medical go the day before you send the application if possible cause if you go too early they may expire and they will be asked to re-do the medicals...

BTW smoothiesqueen... I forgot to add before sending your applicatio with all these documents make sure you make a copie of every document for yourself. I don't want to scare you but Kingston is known for losing documents... They just lost my husband medical and I am being delayed because of that... Just a little heads up thankfully we had a copy and we were able to provide them with the number that is on the medical exam paper ;D

Hi mylilangel!!!!

I think only can be done online and at a financial institution if you're inside Canada but I may be wrong

If you are abroad then you would have to contact the high commission to find out the methods of payment.

Any other news from the the high commission???

I found a thread in the forum that said...

Go to just about any UK bank and tell them you want a Bankers Draft/Certified Check drawn on a Canadian bank. Will take 2/3 days. (only in this case it's not the UK)

but definatly give them a call cause I am not sure if this applies because it's in the UK...

The medicals vary in cost, but expect to pay about $8000 to $10,000 JMD for each person. Also, make sure you have cash. I ended up having to run to the ATM because I learned while at the DMP that they don't take debit or credit cards for these exams. The DMP gives the applicant a copy of the medical form, this must be sent along with the application.
