hi everyone. so my dilemna is hubby is picking up his police check October 25, I am unable to submit the package until Nov 19. that will make the check one month old - according to CIC the police check has to be 3 months or less. by the time it gets transferred to KVO it will be over three months old in Jan. it now takes 60 days for SA. I was crunching numbers and I just can't get it in until then...as I have decided to get the med done in advance. He is not in position to contribute as he is barely scrapping by with his salary as a security guard and even more so as his hours got cut.

as it is I am missing him terribly and I have resolved to the fact that i will not be able to visit him until Jan or even Feb. living in toronto is expensive when one works in the social non profit sector. I can't save $$$. We just had our 2 year anniversary this past Monday...missing and loving him now more then ever.

anyways do you think they will allow the check

Hey everyone, its great to see all your progress and updates, the information on here has been really helpful.

I was just curious if anyone had any thoughts on whether the impact of us coming up to election would have any impact on processing times of our applications, good or bad? I only just put in my application this week, so I have a while to go yet.

Anyone know if a potential a change in government would impact the staff of the VO & how they approach & process these files?
no I do not think that the election could effect it however I was thinking that the amount of refugees they are accepting right now that are migrating here illegally could affect the time it takes to process our applications .. It's unfair how those are being processed faster especially considering the majority of them have to be dependent on government assistance once they arrive in canada as refugees where as our spouses aren't any burden on the government financially since we are responsible to support them financially for 5 years and it they collected money from social assistance then we as sponsors would have to repay it ... Like I previously stated my husbands best friend had a phone interview this morning .. They called him and asked him a few questions and ended the conversation by saying she was going to think about whether or not she would waive the interview so Kingston is moving just notoriously slow !! But it's my understand immigration does put a cap on the amount of people who can immigrate to canada yearly so I would think them agreeing to accept hundreds of thousand refugees within the next few years would slow down things a little, but the processing times they state for Jamaica (22 months) is not accurate I think they more less write that to avoid having to respond to everyone's request when asking how far along there application is in terms of processing ..now this is just my opinion

I know it's difficult my husband works also but the pay is crazy .. Most security jobs are only paying $6-$12,000 Jamaican a week .. My husband didn't have the money to do his either at the time but I paid for it because I know when he comes here it will be different .. It's actually sickening to see how much they slave them in Jamaica for such low salaries .. When they have fare to pay , kids to go to school and lunches to buy for work that money is long gone before it even reach in your pocket .. Now in my case my police check was done mid September and November 12 we summited our application with PC and medical and we were alright , they didn't say anything to me about the PC being summited that was done the two months before we summited out application to Mississauga and approx 5 months before Kingston Jamaica received my husbands portion of the application with everything included ...and the police check thing is a hassle , well in mobay anyways . My husband had to go pay the money at the tax office then bring the receipt to the police station to get the check done . If you are doing it in Kingston they do next day service for $8000 JM and express service is $6000 and don't I believe within 5 business days and the last method I believe is $2-3000 but you wait a few weeks to get it back . but the police station in mobay is always packed TUes, wed and Thursday as these are the 3 days out of the week they are done in Montego bat

that's a fair amount of time I was just asking because it's my understanding you have to be in the relationship for atleast a year before sponsoring and 7 times is a decent amount , my husband and I did have more time spent together because initially be was in canada on a working visa . Immigration also knows there are a lot of costs associated with us travelling back and forth and many people get through with even less visits and time spent together ..they also know the majority of us can't take time off work constantly to travel unless self employed you just get 1-3 weeks vacation for the year ... They also know that many Jamaicans don't have the funds available to cover out travel expenses for us .. And the long waits don't help the situation at all it's difficult but God won't give us more than we can handle .. And i appreciate the time I have with my husband and I know after going through this process were strong enough to get through anything together ..

Thats the first I've heard of being together a year to sponsor. Would that not be those in conjugal relationships. I had registered on this forum soon after I married and saw many people come and go. Some that have become my friends outside the forum. My point is, I am somewhat familiar with the process, but still seek guidance not necessarily opinions. I choose not to guess or assume anything, whether my file contains enough or whether the amount of times I travel is acceptable.

;) but your distance will be bridged as I see your hubby has his PPR. much blessings, when will be arriving?

yes he works 12 hrs a day - little time for anything else. at one time before hours got cut he was working 6 days a week. he is a hard worker and I have no doubt in my mind he will work hard here. He has opened my eyes to so much, I see the world a little different now. So not seeing as much as I would like - its a small sacrifice to a life time ahead. this is what gets me thru my dark days..my future and what is to come, not without its challenges I am certain.

how does your family and friends take your marriage? anyone want to share. Mine are all supportive or at least acting like they do. But my mom. Nope. she has some strong opinions, he is with you for the papers. its not a race thing, if I was married to a russian I am pretty certain she would think same. Or I pray its not race. I mean gees we are first nations...and within our family its pretty diverse. Anyways its time for some binge watching. Watching empire. season 1 eps. 2.

this is the first i`ve heard of having to be in a relationship for a year in order to sponsor as well. i have a co-worker she married her husband from Trinidad after 6 months of knowing him and sponsored him and he landed last year.

ive known my husband a year and a half and we married after 12 months, and visited him 3 times. im hoping the length of time does not show the genuineness of a relationship cause then i would just have no faith in this process.

my friends are supportive and all my family except my mother as well. she also seems to think hes with me for my papers. but in time im sure they`ll come around when we`re 20 years into our marriage. i just know it because she doesn't understand how time has developed and its so much easier now to build a relationship over distance then it was in her day. ... and i`m about to watch scandal and how to get away with murder online i missed it Thursday night :D
