Just spoke to my hubby a short time ago, he is in a shelter but he said the amount of robbing and shooting going on in JA is just crazy right now. Police and soldiers are everywhere. The storm hasn't completely hit yet, but tons of rain and wind "like rass" Has anyone else heard anything from their families yet?

I just spoke to my husband, he is from St. Thomas area and said it was supposed to hit in an hour. Robbing and shooting?? Oh my I am sooo worried

when it comes to kgn i tend to take any update as a positive one.....they are so confusing and all our files get different kinds of updates..... mine went from application received to medicals received to in process..... hubby had his interview the beginning of this month and still no update about the interview status stays the same in process

This is what I find so confusing. I was told that they go by the file and when the application was received (date wise). If this is so, why do some people who applied later than others have interviews and in some cases visas already. There seems to be no consistancy.
Has anyone tried to communicate with the Kingston office and if so, do they respond?

You can email them however you will receive a generic reply back that they have your file and they are working on it

Just spoke to my husband. He says the rains have not started where he is but the winds are picking up. He never mentioned anything about any criminal activity but he is in a small town in Westmoreland and it is usually a pretty quiet area.
Still worried tho!!!

Wonder if I could go to the immigration office in Ottawa and ask for information there. Has anyone done that?

they are shutting down the power for the whole island at 3pm local Jamaican time so i guess that's in a few minutes... he is in Portmore he says the winds are crazy there right now and there are fallen trees everywhere..... praying hard that all will be well .... please God keep my all our families safe and take extra care of our dear Ananda out there ..... :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
according too the news the storm will be moving out of Jamaica by 8pm ...doubt they will have the power back up by then sooo all we can do now is sit hope and pray that all goes well and everyone is safe
prayers for the people in Cuba as well because once this monster leaves Jamaica it is expected to strengthen as it heads towards them... then the Bahamas Blondie again i beg of you to take all precautions and keep safe my friend.....

reports have just come in that 1 death is blamed on sandy right now ... a woman in hatti was washed away by the floods from the storm ...condolences to her family ....dear lord please dont let anyone else die from this order

We have learnt with immigration that nothing is consistent.. It also depends on the cases.. some maybe more straight forward than others, some may have a faster IO, some may have issues.. You can email as some people are actually getting a little response but don't hope for too much.. they don't share information often. You can try Ottawa but they may tell you that they have no clue at whats happening in Jamaica so you still will have to wait..

Hold faith though,, just because you don't know doesn't mean they aren't working on it. You may be farther than you think and your horizon just around the corner! Keep faith!

Government has just closed our schools til Monday... Stores are packed and everyone getting shutters and boards together.. People carrying on bad! No crime though, thank God.. I pray everyone is safe in JA.. My heart goes out to all of you who can't be with loved ones right now.
We have 20 to 30 mile per hour winds, cloudy with scattered showers right now.
Cuba and little bit a Haiti next... Lawd knows they dont need it!

Just wondering if any march applicants had any updates on ecas?? Mine only says application received ;(~~Many prayers going out to all family members during this nasty storm ~~~

I'm a March applicant as well and my ecas states (and always has!) 'application received/medicals received'.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you and our loved ones during this turbulant time - the storm and immigration process. One love.

Sending prayers to everyone in JA that Sandy will travel with little damage. She's off to Cuba next and so worried for hubby so I completely understand what all of you are feeling. So terrible and scary.... Let's hope all our loved ones stay warm and safe!!!

i do not book online i have a travel agent who hooks me up with the best rates possible ... she is always on the look out for good rates into kgn for me ..... if you dont mind me asking your location .... im am just asking cause i live in brampton and thats where my travel agent is so if this was your area i could totally hook you up with the deets and you could call her and see what she could do for you

Royal Lolly once the file leaves Canada they cannot help you...... until such time that you are past the CIC processing and then your MP can do an inquiry....

As far as power there it is shut off and they said most likely for today and tomorrow. Hopefully not longer than that. My hubby just called me but only lasted about 1 minute, but as long as I know for that 1 minute he is ok then I can breathe a sigh of relief. I have had a few friends post on facebook pictures of some of the areas in Kingston and Portmore so I am hoping that the worst is over. Going to keep praying though that everything goes back to normal soon!
