They work overtime depending on how busy the season is as with any other government agency. This can also include weekends.

thats true cause when my mother in law came last year for her dads funeral
the lady that she went to had her come in on saturday morning to see her
the place was pretty empty except for a handful of people

Probably they worked some overtime in December before the Christmas break and that's probably why a lot of people got visas issued. Now that is January they have slowed down overtime is not issued as government wants to save money to not pay employees extra. My guess on that but not 100% sure Maddants.

I believe it's the opposite. It's a new year with brand new files about to fill up their office. I think they will take this time to get older files out of the way before the new ship comes in. more PPL tend to file in the first part of the year so they'll be hit with the motha load soon.

Also, a high percentage of the reason why a file can take long depends on background checks not just within Canada but a global system that is integrated with other countries ie Europe, US, etc etc.

If you're name gets a hit, then they take it further. They can't really do much until they get all checks and approvals back from CSIS who faciliates everything.
