mailvdutt, where are those jobs?

Most IT jobs are posted on websites like workopolis and there are probably upwards of 500 applicants for each one of them.

How much can you expect to make? According to recent surveys IT professionals in Canada hardly make more than 30,000/year which is barely going to pull them above the poverty line.

IT is the sector that is the easiest to outsource. Most information support centers for North America are already in your home country - India. (DELL for example).

Do you think anyone here cares to have a nice smart immigrant on their team when they can purchase the same service overseas for pennies?

The funny, or not so funny thing is, immigration lawyers charge their customers thousands of dollars to bring them into this mess and the lawyer's opinion still matters more than mine - the free advice of someone who has been through a lot and has seen a lot.

Telling you where I am, which country I came from or any other information will be pointless.

Many would think I was just a disgruntled loser.

What I am trying to warn you about has been going on for years. You can find traces of it in many places.

It is absolutely unrealistic for you to expect any decent jobs at a time when every 5th Canadian is out of work.

Canada is in fact in wait of your savings to move on to the next page.
Is that true? Is there really 20% unemployment in Canada?? OMG that's bad. :(

Any job in Banks here in Canada, 100's apply for one part time casual position. No doubt there is too much of competition. 1st break is like a "bridge too far." One need to get co-op placement/ internship before having any scope of employment in ones own field.

Immigrants do not go to new lands for JOBS.
I am sure this is the way those who are not immigrants themselves think of it, but it is not JOBS per se we look for when relocating to new lands.

Above and first of all, to decide to leave one's own country of birth the latter must actually create some truly unbearable circumstances for existence.

Sometimes it has to do with material opportunity , but sometimes it has completely nothing to do with JOBS or silly hopes of getting very rich and very quick in a new land where one hopes to build a new life for family and self.

It wasn't JOBS that Pilgrims who immigrated to America in early days were looking for. Although, many of those pioneers proved to be industrious and prospered greatly in the long run, but originally it was not JOBS that they came to America for.
It was suffocating and indivudally destructive athmosphere of intolerance towards their particular breed of population within the borders of mother England!
It wasn't all Englishmen who decided to immigrate, many were happy to stay and their descendands are still living ever happily in England today, with much of things in days past forgotten.
But there were SOME ENglishmen who couldn't take it no more and preferred to come to a waste land, risk death in hands of Natives and struggle through infinite toils here in FREE LAND rather than languish and die of desperation in where they came from, even though some were materially well off people in where they originated from.

We do not want to go to Canada to receive the diamonds from the skies! Those fools who go for easy gains are to face grave dissapointment. Not everyone made to be an IMMIGRANT!

But those of us, with heart, passion and LOVE of our close ones, with hopes of FUTURE which we want to give to our CHILDREN, with our complete and absolute INNER CONFIDENCE that we desreve better than what we were pigenholed to be destined for in our country of birth, now those are the ones who SHOULD be ones who immigrate. And once in Canada, we won't expect our new homeland to adopt to our ways and accomodate us with all luxuries and best jobs it can offer.
Oh no! The first and above all we will lower our heads and bow with the adundant sense of grace and appreciation that in these hard days this great land has given us an opportunity, had embraced and welcomed with open arms, as it's own keen, those of us who truly wanted to be there!

And we will BUILD CANADA with our fellow countrymen. Canada has a great future, make no mistake about it. It is second in size country in the world with only 33 millions of people populating there lands. This country has so much in future and will grow as what you can't foresee now.

Canada today is what America was at once to those who yearned for New Beginnign and New Life.
And nothing of magnitute comes with ease , little effort or without toils.

May only Canada be kind enough to accept us: we will repay her with boundless debt with energy and hard work and dedication to make that country as strong and prosperous as our sense of appreciation and grace for it will be!

Amen to that.

I could agree with what you posted to some degree, except the fact that "Lord", as people know it, does not exist.
When we die our consciousness will be annihilated for eternity.

All we have for certain is NOW!
And we are prepared to do ALL WE CAN to make our and our kids' NOW worth of EXISTING!

best of luck to all.

Very good responce!

I also don't understand intentions of those who post those kind of discouraging remarks as if we were all a bunch of fools who go to Canada unprepared or wishing for some diamond rain falling from the skies.

Toils and hardships and struggle are OK with me, as long as there is a Hope and Freedom.

Who knows, may be we will immediately get great jobs and advance very rapidly once in Canada, but that's not what we put in our minds before moving there.

It is dumbfounding that some people are so clueless about what it means to have a QUALITY OF LIFE and that it's not just JOBS or luxuries that matetr in life.
There are things that matter a lot more in real life. Unfortunately some just can't fathom it.

hi canada0801!

this is not the right way to deal with someone who has struggled in canada. it can happen to anyone and because of hardships and all the pain people get frustrated. we need to help him and uplift his moral instead of demoralising and discouraging him. his post will not only help him but others as well on this forum. i wish him luck and pray he also acheives his goals.

The official number is not that bad.

Canadian Unemployment Rate At 7.9%

November 5 2010 - Statistics Canada reported that the unemployment rate edged back down 0.1% to 7.9% in October as gains in full-time jobs were matched by part-time losses.
Alberta showed gains over the month while Nova Scotia experienced losses, with little change in other provinces.

Seasonally adjusted, unemployment rates vary from 13.0% (Newfoundland and Labrador) to 5.2% (Manitoba).

Rates for all the provinces were (previous month in brackets):

Newfoundland and Labrador 13.0% (13.5%)
Prince Edward Island 12.9% (13.6%)
Nova Scotia 9.8% (9.0%)
New Brunswick 9.8% (9.8%)
Quebec 8.0% (7.7%)
Ontario 8.6% (8.8%)
Manitoba 5.2% (5.4%)
Saskatchewan 5.7% (5.5%)
Alberta 6.0% (6.2%)
British Columbia 7.4% (7.5%)

Let me note that there is nothing wrong with looking for best paying job.
But it is one thing to do what makes sense (look for best paying job and one you like doing) and it is totally different thing to set unrealistic expectations about Canada.
Everything comes with time, effort and dedication. Nothing is easy in life.
As long as there is Freedom and Hope, which is what Canada really offers to immigrants, i don't think of anything as of insurmountable barrier.

canada0801,

Becoming rich in a short time has been the least of my concerns when coming here.

Most of you DO NEED jobs unless you can fork out 25,000/year and accept a life of no friends and joy and no meaningful things to do.

The 30,000/year average came from a Canadian job survey I recently read. I was surprised at it as well. If US and Canada were paying good wages to their Indian employees there will be no need to outsource anything. The IT business is not environmentally unfriendly.

The official unemployment rate is sitting at over 8% but in this figure they only include people on active EI claims. This means if you are unemployed that has been paying no EI premiums, you do not count. If your EI term has ended (usually 10 months) and you were unsuccessful finding a job, you no longer count as unemployed.

Then with so many unemployed, it takes really strong connections to be hired. This is how most Canadians change jobs - by knowing people. When you first arrive, you are likely to know nobody. The odds are completely against you.
