generally, i belive the traveler needs to apply for a visitor visa for the US if they are not visa exempt. Having a visa to visit canada doesn't give someone authority to travel to the us. They are completely seperate from eachother, as they are different countries.

Thanks, and yes, obviously they are separate countries. ;D I did a little research of my own and discovered this bit of information if it is helpful for anyone else.

You will need ESTA if you are from a visa-waiver country such as Australia, Japan, UK and EU countries to enter US by air even if you are a permanent resident of Canada. If you are from a country that needs a visa to enter US then you don't need ESTA but just a valid visa to enter US.

My son's application which was received on June 12th was already approved as Sponsor. He received the email today, Aug. 6th.
