Got the passport request letter today. Wife has a full UK passport (no visa needed) and happened to be here in Canada right now. Based on the wording of the following paragraph from the letter.... it seems like she can bypass the COPR letter and landed virtually? Not sure what that means exactly but I've submitted the info via webform.
B) If you are currently in Canada, you are not required to submit your passport and will be landed virtually. Please advise our office via webform within 5 days of receipt of this letter if you and/or any of your dependents are in Canada. Please include each person’s name/UCI and where they are currently staying/residing (in Canada or overseas).

Yes, basically - there will still be a COPR but 'completed' ('landed') which will be confirmation of PR status while awaiting a PR card.
(For those abroad the COPR is not confirmation of permanent resident status until completed, i.e. stamped upon arrival.)
Hi. Sorry for the delay in responding. Yes I am the Brit. My ETA expired in March but from my understanding of the IRCC website if you are in possession of COPR you DO NOT need a ETA to travel to Canada as the COPR supersedes the ETA.
So Mr LL has his photo appointment today? Wishing you all the best of luck. Remember to put his name,date of birth and name and address of photography studio and date photos taken on one of the photos and to put your application number on both photos. Hopefully you will have COPR by end of next week. See you on the other side.
I do not know for certain but think you may still need the ETA. Would strongly suggest checking with airline and the arrivecan app as wouldn't be fun to find out the airline thinks differently.

Yes, appointment was yesterday. Hope to collect photos tomorrow. We were also asked to label the envelope with 'VPU', I think, so that it gets to the correct department faster. As I recall getting the eta does not take long and it's all online so not really any reason not to get it...
I am think CAD$7 is not too much to prevent worry about entry issues....
