The one from Revenue Canada may be related to the GST rebate. My wife got one saying since her marital status had changed they needed information to determine if she qualified. Needed a declaration of our relationship, signed by both of us and proof of my income from last year.

I bit confused here ... they actually allow you to inculde your spouse on your taxess even if they have not landed yet and have no social security number?

@ ohliuw - Pretty sure this only applies to people who's spouse is already in canada with them. My boyfriend is here on a working holiday visa so I was able to update our status as common law and needed to provide his SIN # and some other info.... not sure how it works for people who have not landed, sorry!

yes....you have to claim what your marital status is.....and if you are married you have to tick that box.....right on the first page of the return and then they ask his/her name.......you leave SIN number blank and later in the form it will ask his worldwide income if any and you must insert that.......

Hi, first of all, you need to fill out the form RC65 (you can find it on CRA website) and send it with your tax return, and be careful in the tax return that you do not claim the basic personal amount of your spouse on the federal income tax return unless you've been financially supporting your spouse, and just claim your own GST credit, not you and your spouse since she's not in Canada yet, and after she lands Canada, she needs to fill the form RC151 to apply for the GST credit.

For quebec tax return, the qc gov allows you to claim the basic personal amount of your wife even she's not in canada yet.

When you file your tax return, just write a note that your wife is not in Canada yet, and leave her SIN 000-000-000

Two days after recieving my approval email, I still can not log into ECAS. I am using my family name (sponsor) the UCI by puting a - in the middle XXXX-XXXX. My date of birth and country of birth. Does not work. Also tried using the Immigration File number (FXXXXXXXXX), with the same personal information. Nothing. A bit worried. :(

On the other hand I have applied to the QUebec Ministry of Immigration now. They promiss to be done within 20 working days. We'll see how this goes.

Don't worry. Ecas is not consistently updated. What really matters is the approval that you got :D
