Government of Canada Supports Youth Festival on Financial Education and Civic Participation
Montréal, February 25, 2011 — Senators Leo Housakos and Andrée Champagne today announced support for Spectacle Jeunesse, a festival to promote financial education and civic participation, taking place at Concordia University.
“By supporting festivals like this one, we help showcase the diversity of our country and the many talents of younger Canadians,” said Senator Champagne on behalf of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney.
Carrefour Jeunesse-emploi Côte-des-Neiges (CJECDN) is receiving $5,500 for the event under Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s Inter-Action program. Presented as part of Black History Month, the festival promotes intercultural exchanges between young immigrants from various origins and helps them integrate into Canada. Over one hundred youth are involved in staging this event, and twenty or so young participants will perform at the festival.
This support from the Inter-Action program will help people from all communities in Canada celebrate our diversity, as well as our shared values, history and institutions.
The festival, which will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on February 26 at Concordia University in Montréal, is open to the public. Everyone is encouraged to attend. For further information, please go to www.cjecdn.qc.ca.
