My biometrics request letter clearly mentions this:

Note: If you received this letter you must give your biometrics before coming to Canada and are not

eligible to have your fingerprints and photograph taken at a Canadian port of entry. If you are already

in Canada, you will have to leave the country to provide your biometrics.

@roan101 since you are on this thread, I believe your application is outland? if it is outland you might receive similar letter and wife will have to leave Canada for biometrics. If you are an inland applicant then it could be different.

Been living in Canada for 8 years and I was asked to to RCMP biometrics instead of doing it in my own country. (We applied OUTLAND and got transferred to Mississauga from Sydney NS)

It states on the biometrics request that I had to do it in Canada.

I hope I will get good news this week. Still haven't received the AOR, it's 46 days since the application was received in Sydney, NS. Just praying they're not sending the whole thing back because of the updated forms! :(

Anyone else here January 18th?

They were still sending out AOR to application on Jan 11 over last weekend.

Give it another one or two weeks you’ll hear from them. Mine took 50 days to get AOR but I saw lots of people got theirs after 60 days of application date.

So now @roan101 will have to wait for his biometrics request and see if his wife has to do biometrics in Canada or back home..

BTW @rbbt0824 is the PA in Canada? and you applied outland? Wouldn't inland make sense as he/she can get a work permit, sin number and provincial health care???

Long story. We both are living in Canada. I’m the PA and holding work permit after graduating here. I also have SIN and health care here just need Outland to process it faster, other than longer processing time of Inland. Could get EE but takes longer to get enough score.

ahhh.. so you mentioned you are living in Canada and sent in your permit copies.. that's why you got inland biometrics.. in @roan101's case if they showed CIC that PA is in Canada on they application then they should get inland biometric.. logically.. otherwise CIC has its own logic...

BTW I went EE route 3 years back.. I am sooo done with immigration that once my wife comes in I am not even going to talk about immigration to anyone.. Plus doing everything on own is exhausting..

Quick update for us:
Yesterday I received an email that I needed to pay for biometrics and send the receipt to them, which I did promptly. I sent the receipt over https://secure.cic.gc.ca/enquiries-renseignements/canada-case-cas-eng.aspx since I was unable to link my MyCIC account (which I finally did later last night..WHEW).

We were both a bit surprised we had to do biometrics because we had triple checked to see if American's needed to send in Biometrics before sending in our app, but every form we did online said no...but apparently this had changed December 31st, 2018 (from a CBC news article I read and from CIC's email sent yesterday). I don't even think they have actually updated their web page forms yet to say that Americans need to pay the biometric fee. (I tried yesterday, and after filling out the forms online to test them, it still said I didn't have to as an US citizen).

We have SA approval right now, and are waiting for a bunch of things for myself (biometrics and medical)
And just waiting for the official biometrics letter on where to go and get them done.

Quick question on the biometrics: Can I get them done anywhere in the states? I'm currently visiting my brother for a bit in a different state, so was hoping I could just get them done while I'm here if they happen to send the okay to do so, or do I have to specifically go to where they say to go in the city I reside in?

Yes, adults who lives in Canada for more than 6 months will be request to do RCMP biometrics

Source:
If you lived in Canada for more than 6 months since the age of 18, you may be asked for fingerprints to complete your criminal record check by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=857&top=4

Exactly. If someone is on visitors visa, then that person is not allowed legally to live in canada for more than 6 months. Ppl with student permit or work permit has some business to attend here.

Only americans coming to visit are exempted from biometrics. Pr, work or students need to do biometric as of now.

Coming to ur question: as long as u hve ur passport and biometric request letter, u can do it anywhere u want in US. There is a list. Search for biometric locations on google and see if they allow walk ins or only appointments.
