--------------------------------------------------------------So you completed 5 years in Canada. Good, how about people completed 10-12(3-4 study+3-4 years work+3-4 yrs as PR) years in canada and still waiting for citizenship, how about them?
1. Don't you think, CIC should finish your application after all of the people who lived in canada more than you?
2. What do you mean by floodgate? Those people came way before you and C-24 halt their journey to get citizenship. So people who lived in this country longer than you , paid taxes to keep cic running even before you came here. Are those people seem floodgate water for you? You wouldn't exists in canada if those floodgate member stopped paying taxes so that cic can run and get new immigrants.
Sorry this is a long response to what i felt was an illogical response to my point.

You are missing the point, I don't care if you vote for Liberals. Its not a party that brings new immigrants here, its the law of the country and people who change these laws, more often than not, do this for their own benefit, whichever party is in power. Don't think for a minute that parties invite immigrants to their country because they want to do charity. They invite you because they see a bleak future without immigrants. Who will pay for the social programs when all the population grows old? So countries invite young immigrants for their own benefit. They want engineers/doctors/skilled tradesmen because locally it's hard to find skills/talent.
You are actually doing them a favor to come and live here, in return you get a chance for a better life and to live here forever, so a win win situation for both. This is exactly the point of this govt when they removed the dual citizenship clause from the law. because they want more people to come and live in the country without fear of them losing what they have rightfully earned.
But when it comes to laws they have to implemented fairly. Of course barring some practical reasons people who applied first should be given higher preference. Any good administrator will be able to foresee that such a change in law will suddenly increase an influx of applications and hence a proper implementation plan should be put in place to rectify this situation. I just gave one example that such a change can be introduced in stages for a better implementation.
