I agree that, yes, that person is GOING to file. but, in the world of bureaucracy, someone can see this as misrepresentation. Your application is a legal document and you can't just say "yes I've filed" when you haven't done it yet.

Exactly. Nobody's getting their T4, T5, etc. until next month so it's reasonable to assume that IRCC won't expect January and February applicants to have filed taxes for the 2016 tax year. In my case, I checked that I'm required to file for 2016 but haven't. But since I filed for years 2011-15 it won't be an issue.
Per IRCC's website:
"To be eligible for citizenship, applicants are required to meet their tax filing obligations under the Income Tax Act for four of the taxation years that fall fully or partially within the six years immediately before the date of application."
As long as you meet the 4/6 tax filing rule, you'll be OK in that regard.

Hi, for tax question ,I only mentioned 2012,2013,2014 and 2015 as YES and YES ....didn't put any details after that about 2016 ...not even wrote 2016 Year in the form.
I landed in sep 2012 and applied for citizenship on Jan 10 2017.....I received AOR few days back...so I think CIC is not that concerned about 2016 ,because it's too early...I am not an expert on the above issue but just sharing what I did...and that my application has been accepted for processing(as per AOR interpretation )..don't know if they need me to clarify in future regarding 2016 tax filling....but anyways I'll be filing 2016 tax return very soon .

If you are between the ages of 14 and 64, you will have to meet the knowledge and language requirements for citizenship. The citizenship test will determine if you meet the knowledge requirements for citizenship. You will be notified by mail about the time and place of your test. Adult applicants who are 65 years old or older are not required to take the citizenship test.
An interview with a citizenship officer or citizenship judge may also be required. Should this be necessary, you will be notified by mail about the time and place of your interview.

If you wish to withdraw your application, you must advise us before a decision on your application has been made.

But wait until those who applied at the beginning of the month to receive their AOR. The average will increase.
