Hi guys! I was offered that Canadian job I applied for!!! :) (and they offered it to me on my birthday yesterday!)

So, I'm not sure where to ask this question family or work forum. It's for a senior level position that I feel qualifies for NAFTA temp-work visa under Business Consultant but if it doesn't then my husband's company can sponsor me and it would be a true Biz Consultant position because I would be a consultant being paid by his company while working for the one that offered me the job. Do you know if I can try both ways at the border or do I only get one chance? I REALLY want this job not only because it brings me to Canada quicker but also because I have admired the company (worked along side them) for 5 years and feel it would make for a great long-term career.

I know this isn't the right place to ask. Perhaps I'll post in both places.

You need to go here:

http://www.workingincanada.gc.ca/home-eng.do?lang=eng

Find your job. Match it with the job description for the job you've been offered. Make sure they match 110%.

Then check it against NAFTA. Make sure it matches the NAFTA job description 110%.

"Business consultant" can mean a lot of things. What the IO will look at is the job description, followed by pay. Those need to be on level ground with NAFTA and HRSDC. HRSDC is the agency that usually hands out LMOs. They will have a listing of jobs and what the apprioriate pay ranges are. If the job you're offered pays less than what HRSDC has published, the IO may also deny the work permit based on that.

Hi Amikety, I'm a bit confused. Do I search for the actual position that was offered to me on that website? What does that have to do with a temp work visa? The job was posted on the company's website and on LinkedIn.

To get a NAFTA visa, the job description, title, and wages must match up with NAFTA standards.

If you're getting a LMO, the job description and title must match up to the wage. The LMO will provide proof they couldn't find a Canadian for the job.

The NAFTA rules are rather strict to avoid people slapping job titles on any old job and getting a work permit.

Ok, got it. It's my understanding that a LMO is not needed for a temporary work visa if you're applying through NAFTA but I may be wrong. I'll have to look more into it, in the past I didn't see anything about wages in the NAFTA document. But I wasn't looking at it that closely.

You're correct. If the job qualifies as NAFTA, you don't need a LMO. You'll need to make sure the job truly is NAFTA (which is why I suggested reading the job descriptions). "Business consultant" can mean a lot of things. I would definitely read on what NAFTA defines as a business consultant.

Here is GC's page for it. There's an email you can ask questions to. Not sure how responsive or helpful they are, but it's an option I guess :)

Chapter 16:

Is this the option you're looking at? Management Consultant - Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree; or equivalent professional experience as established by statement or professional credential attesting to five years experience as a management consultant , or five years experience in a field of specialty related to the consulting agreement

Hi leeyangss! You've been added.

Do you happen to have or know the dates you took your medicals, the application was mailed, and did you get AOR? Also, if you'd like, I can put your destination in Canada if you feel comfortable sharing! :)

Hi guys,

Just a little update, a few minutes ago I just spoke to someone from my MP's office and asked for more details about her conversation yesterday with someone from CPC-M (the actual Mississauga office, NOT the 1-888-242-2100 Montréal call centre).

Basically, the CIC rep looked for my package tracking number in their database, and she found my tracking number! Which means that my package IS at CPC-M, but for some odd reason the warehouse staff might've forgotten to bring my parcel to the appropriate processing agent...*sigh* annoying I know, but that's a relief!
And they're trying to find out why my application wasn't logged and entered into the system...

Hoping to hear from them soon...

*Fingers crossed*
