Hi,

Absolutely no.

Your only option is to apply in a visa office out of Canada.

Yes you can. If you are in Canada you may choose to enroll in a course who's duration is of 6 months or less without a student permit.

2nd) Use the online tool and create a CIC login ID and click on change my conditions of stay.

You can definitely move from Visitor to Student (Provided you do not violate your stay as a visitor.) Do not start studying for a degree/diploma/course who's duration is more than 6 months. Please apply for the necessary permits before you choose to do so.

Take admission - Pay the deposit - apply for study permit online - you may be interviewed - get the study permit - continue to stay in Canada.

Just google and call CIC.

No you are wrong, you can't apply for a study permit from within Canada if you came on a visit visa, as per CIC

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/study-who.asp

You do not need a study permit if you plan to take a course or program in Canada that lasts six months or less. You must complete the course or program within the period authorized for your stay in Canada.

Even if you do not need a study permit, it is a good idea to apply for a permit before you come to Canada. If you decide that you want to continue your studies in another program after you complete your short-term course or program, you must apply through a Canadian visa office outside Canada for a study permit if you do not already have one.

Call CIC if you are in Canada. They are your best friends. I believe you can but I could always be wrong. I have applied for study permit from within Canada. Moved from Work to Study and Visitor. It was really simple.

But then again I came as student. I only speak from personal experience.

You did because you came as a student, rules clearly state if you came as a visitor you can't.

Hi,

You need a logical reason to apply at Buffalo. Most likely you shall get back your papers with a direction to apply in your homeland.

I believe you are right. Cause you need to have stayed in Canada for at least year to be able to apply to Seattle or Buffalo. I guess we are debating here on what can be done and what cant be done - while the individual who started the thread is lost!! ::)

No, "admitted for 1 year" is for PR applications that wish to use Buffalo.

There is no debate, you're giving him incorrect information. You can't apply in Buffalo either if you came on a visit visa to Canada.

Maybe you might at least to do a little bit of reading to find the correct information before telling people that they are giving incorrect information? From the Immigration regulations.

Place of application for permanent resident visa

11. (1) An application for a permanent resident visa — other than an application for a permanent resident visa made under Part 8 — must be made to the immigration office that serves
(a) the country where the applicant is residing, if the applicant has been lawfully admitted to that country for a period of at least one year; or
(b) the applicant's country of nationality or, if the applicant is stateless, their country of habitual residence other than a country in which they are residing without having been lawfully admitted.

Place of application for temporary resident visa, work permit or study permit

(2) An application for a temporary resident visa — or an application for a work permit or study permit that under these Regulations must be made outside of Canada — must be made to an immigration office that serves as an immigration office for processing the type of application made and that serves, for the purpose of the application,

(a) the country in which the applicant is present and has been lawfully admitted; or
(b) the applicant's country of nationality or, if the applicant is stateless, their country of habitual residence other than a country in which they are residing without having been lawfully admitted.

Awaiting your apology.
