If applicant is pregnant and lands in quebec and applies for health card -- does she have to wait for 3 months or they make exceptions and she can get the card immediately which she can use for her delivery charges etc

Im talking about the pregnant wife here, the husband can wait for 3 months . . .. .

Thanks

The 3 month waiting period applies to everyone. There are no exceptions.

Yes, actually, there are exceptions for pregnant women in Quebec. They cover pregnancy related expenses and delivery.

However, certain health care services may be provided free of charge during the waiting period: services related to pregnancy or required by victims of violence, as well as services for individuals suffering from an infectious disease that could affect public health.

Again, if you leave Quebec soon after collecting their services, they might make you pay back. I haven't heard of it but I heard of one recently where they refused to pay for the delivery of a child in the waiting period because the mother had done it before, that is came to Quebec and had a child paid for by Quebec during the waiting period but had left Canada after that.

Frankly, I would advise you to stop trying to find ways to scam Canada's health care. Either pick a province with first day coverage and settle there or settle in Toronto like you want to and pay for your health care for the first 3 months while you wait for OHIP.

all child birth related expenses will be covered in waiting period, RAMQ will issue letter and you have to show that which clearly state that you under waiting period and child birth related expenses are covered in waiting period.

If applicant is pregnant and lands in quebec and applies for health card. My wife and I recently got married and were lucky enough to get pregnant with our first child only weeks after making the decision to try (the two week wait was literally that).

I read that the child had to remain in Quebec for the first 6 months or they would make you repay it...

i am in bc. I was wondering would all child birth relatedd expenses also be covered during the waiting period in bc? Who can i contact to confirm this?

The only provinces that have a waiting period in the first place if you are moving from another country are BC, Ontario, NB and Quebec. From those 4, only Quebec makes an exception for pregnancy related expenses and delivery. BC has no such exception.

Here is how to contact MSP (BC health care): http://www.health.gov.bc.ca/msp/infoben/contacts.html
