Use of a P.O. Box for a mailing address (not home address) should be fine.

Be aware that CIC is likely to compare the location of the residential address and the P.O. Box . . . for obvious reasons (residential address in Mississauga and a P.O. Box in Markham might invite, one might say, a total stranger bureaucrat at CIC to scratch his or her head and wonder what's the story here . . . just like CIC sometimes compares telephone numbers and addresses, does Canada411 and/or google searches regarding addresses, employers, telephone numbers, and such).

Best I can recall, in the past CIC gave more specific instructions about addresses, for example making it clear that the "home" address must be a residential address, the address of the place of abode where the applicant actually resides. The current instructions and FAQs do not appear to address the potential nuances in providing home and mailing addresses.

In any event, a P.O. Box is the quintessential "mailing address," and is probably the most common example of a mailing address used in citizenship applications, along with using a representative's mailing address when using a representative.

Same problem here i keep on loosing my mails for some reason, and i was thinking of having a pobox aswell so i can monitor my mail myself.... So if i have my mailing address as my po box, i should recieve the response of cic in my po box right? And btw my oo box is like 500 meters from my home... Thanks

Even if they accept PObox I would strongly recommend not to provide one. You may get RQ for suspicious residential address.

There's always the option to use Mail Forwarding from Canada Post.

I know someone working in Canada Revenue, they told me that Canada Post doesn't forward Govt mail. Even if u r moving ur home and have taken that service, it is only applicable to all other mails. For Govt mail, its your responsibility to correct ur address with correct agency asap.

So I m assuming it will apply to CIC too.

I agree with chikloo, even if they accept pls do not provide P.O Box as mailing address. Address and travel histories CIC care about most. And people get RQ for most of time only for these two issues.

hope it helps...

Is it new?

In the past they have forwarded mine, though. It was CIC mail (CPC-Mississauga and São Paulo Visa Office).

Since I changed addresses before my AOR and there is no way I could update it with CIC at the moment, I bought their service. Hope it continues to work. :)

Some of the government envelopes state "Do not forward", which can't be forwarded.

Rest can be forwarded i think.

That would make sense, as opposed to simply not forwarding any mail at all.

The envelope that my new PR Card came in had '[d]o not forward' in it.

Not sure bout CIC, but i came to know recently bout CRA that ur tax returns, benefit Payments can't be forwarded.

May be as thecoolguysam said it may have "Do not forward" stamp. Not sure, no first hand experience, just heard from someone ;)

So if having pobox may trigger an RQ then the only way to safely recieve your mail is either to move to other place or have a representative... Is that the only way? ... Is it not possible for the cic to track the pobox only a few meters from my home address ... Thanks and if i presented with the documents of the spousal application that they need like the paychecks and the option c printout etch. Would i still have the RQ? ... Im a landed immigrant since early 2014

RQ is for citizenship applications, I am not sure about spousal applications though.
