Use of a P.O. Box for a
mailing address (not home address) should be fine.
Be aware that CIC is likely to compare the location of the residential address and the P.O. Box . . . for obvious reasons (residential address in Mississauga and a P.O. Box in Markham might invite, one might say, a total stranger bureaucrat at CIC to scratch his or her head and wonder what's the story here . . . just like CIC sometimes compares telephone numbers and addresses, does Canada411 and/or google searches regarding addresses, employers, telephone numbers, and such).
Best I can recall, in the past CIC gave more specific instructions about addresses, for example making it clear that the "home" address must be a residential address, the address of the place of abode where the applicant actually resides. The current instructions and FAQs do not appear to address the potential nuances in providing home and mailing addresses.
In any event, a P.O. Box is the quintessential "mailing address," and is probably the most common example of a mailing address used in citizenship applications, along with using a representative's mailing address when using a representative.
