Inviting my fiance while I am in Canada as a student

I am a graduate student in Canada and I am planning to invite my fiance. Can we marry in Canada while he is in Canada as a visitor and what are my options of changing his status to depend on me so he can work.

You can invite him.

After you are married he will have to return to his homecountry and then apply for a Spousal work permit.

But is it possible to change his visitor's visa status while in Canada? Someone said he can drive out to the border between Canada and US and apply for change of status at the border.

You need to give a bit more information and there is lots of information on this forum. I have never hear of land between the USA and Canada.

No. He has to apply from his country of residence.

Yes he can do it within Canada, you can even pass the questionnaire on CIC web site, if he is a visitor and his spouse has a valid study permit, it is eligible to apply for a open work permit

You can simply pass the questionnaire here, sorry i am not allowed to post links here yet, type in the search field "questionnaire", it is marked Do you want to come to Canada or extend your stay, don't log in or anything like that, you wiil be able to answer all the questions considering your specific situation, and the system will show you what are you eligible to apply for

You have to access CIC web site, in the right upper corner you will see search field, just type the the word "Questionnaire", it will move you to the search results, the first one will be "Do you want to come to Canada or extend your stay", press it, it will show you the questionnaire which you can pass, you will type your status, conditions and afterwards the system will show what kind of programs, permits you are eligible to apply
