I want to invite my girlfriend to extend her work visa to a visit visa for 12 months.

She is in Canada now.

I can do the invitation Letter but they say they need a citizenship card from me.

My card after 40 years has been destroyed to many times in the washing machine.

The problem is it takes 8 months to get a new card.

Is my Canadian passport and Drivers licence proof enough I am Canadian Citizen.

Has anyone else had success in asking for a 12 month visit visa. Or is that expecting too much.

I will support her while she is here.

Thanks for your feedback

I wrote an invitation letter and didn't include any citizenship card. I don't even have a citizenship card because I was born here. Who is telling you you need to include any proof at all? Passport is more than enough, i wouldn't even include that if it was me.

Below is what it sates on cic website

Information for the person writing the letter of invitation

Writing a letter of invitation does not mean you are legally responsible for the visitor once he or she gets to Canada. You should still write the letter in good faith. You must tell the truth and plan to keep the promises you make in the letter.

Send your letter (notarized, if the visa office asks for that) to the person you are inviting to Canada. The person must then send this letter to the Canadian embassy or consulate outside of Canada when he or she applies for a temporary resident visa.

You must include this information about the person you are inviting:

complete name,
date of birth,
address and telephone number,
your relationship to the person,
the purpose of the trip,
how long the person plans to stay in Canada,
where the person will stay, and how he or she will pay for things, and
when the person plans to leave Canada.

You must include this information about yourself:

complete name,
date of birth,
address and telephone number in Canada,
job title,
whether you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident,
a photocopy of a document proving your status in Canada, such as
a Canadian birth certificate, if you were born in Canada,
a Canadian citizenship card, if you are a naturalized citizen, or
a copy of your PR card or your IMM 1000 proof of landing, if you are a permanent resident,

When I wrote an invitation letter for my then fiancee for her to apply for TRV, I did include a copy of my birth certificate as proof of citizenship.

This is to prove to CIC that you are, in fact, Canadian and not some foreigner in Canada staying temporary. CiC does require proof of PR or Citizenship in order to take your letter of invitation seriously and take it into consideration for TRV applications.
