Hi !! Well, it's done! I went to the US on Saturday, stayed for a night and went back on Sunday trough roosville border crossing. Officers were really nice, alotugh they weren't exactly sure on how to deal with it, and had to check a couple things on internet. Me and my wife stayed for an hour and a half because of that, since I don't have the Aor so they didn't know if my wife had applied already. But they were really good with us, and even said I was smart by doing that instead of waiting.

The checked the documents that I had, didn't ask for any "support letter" (and that border is not even in alberta, but bc), and my wife (who had until now a study permit) got an open work permit.

For me, well.......... I GOT AN OPEN WORK PERMIT AS WELL !!!! Ask me how.... They told me at first "yeah it's gonna have to be a closed one", they checked the nominations which said I had no restrictions, then said that I didn't had the AOR meaning no BOWP for me, and then went back and forth 20 times about it. At the end, open work permit for me valid for one year :)

As I said many times, to everyone, just go to the border. Is was easier when you can actually talk with somebody, explain your situation and actually talk with a human being, rather than filling confusing and contradictory forms.

Congratulations!

We are doing the drive on Thursday to try to get my BF a WP.

Good luck to you guys!!! Everything will be ok.

Hey guys! I need some help clarifying somethings. I will be applying for my MPNP as soon as I have my 6-month full-time experience in a NOC B job in March 6. My WP is expiring in May 12, am I completely screwed since I might not get a nomination in time?

I have been in Canada for 10 years; finished highschool and university in Mb so I'm confident I'll get the nomination but I'm running out of time. Is there a way I can extend my post-graduate work permit?

I thought everyone needed a LMIA, How do I know I'm LMIA exempt?

I've been in Canada for too long, I feel like a foreigner in my own country and I dont wanna leave :'(

Hi folks!

I was wondering if any one who has insight can you help me? If I apply for a BOWP using my nomination certificate next week after the new rules for work permit application come into play will my employer have to pay the $230 fee?

Just on the basis of this question - no.
You applying for a BOWP (online or via paper) - you will have to pay an additional $100 on top of the $155 WP application fee. However - you have not seen yet your nomination letter - you will have to see if there are no restrictions on the nomination letter so that you are eligible for a BOWP.

FYI - it has been reported in various threads here most who apply at the border are now getting OWPs or successfully getting WPs - you may want to consider that option instead of the paper/online route.

The online payment http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/fees/index.asp has these new additions.

Compliance fee (employer) $230.00
Open Work Permit Holder fee $100.00

Follow the links to the online payment site and you will arrive at where to pay these fees.

Thanks another question is on IMM5802 on number 22. Title of LMIA exemption being requested. What is the choice for provincial nominee?

guys,
have you tried to contact your PNP about this?
I have an information (person I know talked to MPNP officer) that Province nominees WILL NOT be affected by this!!
please, if any of you contact officers (PNP or CIC), let us know...

I'm confused right now :-\

FYI - here are the added OP sections with reference to the new regulations:

@ Fistilarte.
Congrats on your work permit. I'm planning to do the same thing since I live close to the border here. I have AOtR, and my permit expires in August.
Just one question though, did you have to fill out forms at the border, or did you fill them before going? and what forms are those if any. Thanks
