I am planning to buy insurance for my parents who are visiting on regular visitor visa (not super visa). I was shopping around and I found that none of the insurance companies in Canada allow for subsequent or recurring claims. So if my father were to go for a back issue to the doctor, it would be covered the first time. But if he goes again for same issue, then its not covered. Is this true? Anyone had trouble with recurring claims on visitor insurance?

If I may ask - What was your insurance premium? And the coverage period? thanks

Yes that is fairly typical for emergency travel medical insurance. It usually doesn’t cover preexisting conditions and is only there to cover emergencies. You are expected to return home once stabilized to seek further treatment.

There is no pre-existing conditions. But suppose my parents start having recurring complaints for a certain thing (like back, for example) , its surprising that only first claim will be covered

I think there are plans that will cover further visits BUT the cost of insurnace with more coverage will cost a lot more ($100 sounds low and likely a typical emergecy only coverage. We paid about that amount for my hubby back then and he was young and healthy). You may want to weight out the cost and if it's just physio or chiroprator visits, just pay out of your pocket. Those are acutally not usually covered in provincial health unless related to series injury that relate to hospitalization or treatement in hospital.

Once they get sick or injured in Canada and get treated any future medical visits and treatments then become treatment for preexisting conditions. Emergency travel insurance is essentially to treat the issue so that you can return home and receive further treatment. If it included longterm treatment it would be much more expensive.
