I'm also wondering, if anyone knows, if I start this process now with check ups, referrals etc, and I pay out of pocket, would Ohip automatically take over mid way through once im covered, or would I have to start all over with check ups, tests etc?

The only thing that would change is that the doctor would bill OHIP instead of you. It would have no effect on treatment.

What about if I get a referral today by my doc for scanning, but I schedule the actual visit so it's 3-4 weeks from now when I have Ohip, it will be covered right? Or would they say that even if visit is once I have Ohip, the referral was made before I got Ohip, and therefore it's not covered?

Ohip will just take over. I came here pregnant and paid out of pocket once i hit 3 months ohip clicked in. I stayed with the same DR so no other checks had to be done.

Yeah, so I've heard. But what about when an actual appointment is set up prior to me being Ohip eligibale, I wonder if that would effect anything. I know I can stay with same doc.

I don't know if OHIP is the same, but with BCMSP my husband was able to re-bill 3 doctor's visits he had to pay for before his BCMSP kicked in. I would ask about that. There's a time limit on that of course, but they are pretty flexible.

Ohip don't allow that ..

Appointments have no bearing on ohip coverage. All that matters is whether you have an ohip card on day of doctor visit or not.

Payment for the Dr is when appointment is completed. I can't see what OHIP wouldn't pay for it .

Do you have all the forms for OHIP to be completed after your 3 months. We was able to get the forms from Service Canada when my husband got his sin #

When you have ohip, you wont pay for appointment. If you have to pay for appointment, get a refund when your ohip kick in on day on doctor visit.

But I am surprised you would have to pay upfront for an appointment? Most offices make appointments without any fees. Only paid when you show up at office if you dont have ohip.

What forms? There was one form that I had to fill out. I did that at a ServiceOntario office and they gave me a paper back saying I'm Ohip eligible with a date in early February.

I know I won't have to pay until the appointment. But I was worried that it still wouldn't be covered if the appointment was scheduled before I had Ohip and that I would possible owe Ohip.

If you don't have Ohip they they will charge you there and then . My husband don't have ohip just yet and he have had to pay to see a Dr and bloody work upfront. Ok hubbie just informed me it is one page. It is called Registration for Ontario Health Insurance Coverage.

I really appreciate you trying to help, I do, but that doesn't answer much of my question. Maybe I worded it wrong.

I am aware that I have to pay up front. I have done it many times. My question was if I get a referral before I have Ohip, but schedule the actual visit to take place once I have Ohip, will that definitely be covered or is there I'm a risk Ohip will not cover it because the actual referral to the appointment was made before I had ohip?

It doesnt matter when the referral was made before ohip kicked in. As long as Ohip is valid on day of doctor visit, ohip will cover it. Plain and simple.
