I have a few questions in regards to open work visa and sponsorship application, and I am hopping maybe someone here can answer some of these questions.
My sponsorship / PR application was received on April 1st and they have started processing the application on June 16th. I am currently on an open work visa because I went to university in Canada, however, it is going to expire on May 12th 2011. The immigration had sent me a letter asking for more proof of our common law status, so I sent them back more information, and also a work permit application (the agent on the phone told me I could do that).
Does anyone know:
1) What happens if my work visa expires before they have issue me a new one?
2) Should I apply for a visitor visa so I can stay in Canada while my application is being process?
3) How long does it take before they let you know they have received your extra document?
4) What is the next step after receiving a letter asking for proof?
Thank you!

Hi Yoda Bob,

I'll tell what I know from my experience:

1) What happens if my work visa expires before they have issue me a new one? - You have to apply for a visitor visa in order to keep your legal status in Canada.
2) Should I apply for a visitor visa so I can stay in Canada while my application is being process? - should apply for a visitor visa.
3) How long does it take before they let you know they have received your extra document? - no idea, sorry.
4) What is the next step after receiving a letter asking for proof? - don't know either, sorry

Good luck!

Thank you Latvian, have you received you PR yet? I see that you applied in Jan 2010??

No, I only applied Oct 1st 2010, so it's still long way to go :o hope to hear smth back from CIC by June / July. It takes soooo long...

yes it takes so long.... I almost forgot i applied. it was july 2010

Hey Inlandappl, I applied in July 2010 too. Seems like it has been forever. Hopefully it will end soon and happily for us. :)

Yes Love_young, as i told here i almost forgot i sent the application :)

Also as a resident of quebec i cannot check the application online, everytime i want to know something I have to call the call centre. i called last week(I don't call that often, once every 2 months) and they told me that they received my additional info that i sent(which was not asked for) and that they have all my papers and that my application is pending. I'm not worried because so far I'm in the average timelines

Oh I wish I could forget for a while that I sent it. Lol. I am not a resident of Quebec and have had a client ID number for years now but for some reason I still cannot sign into ECAS. I called to ask about it but they said I probably wouldn't be able to until I receive decision about AIP. Hopefully it at least works then. I too sent additional documents that weren't asked for but needed (fbi clearance) but they weren't able to tell me if it was received or attached. I would be really happy if I could find that out. I just don't like to call because half of the time I do, they don't understand what I am talking about or don't want to help. And I don't worry about the timelines, I just worry about what the decision will be. In my head I know we have nothing to worry about but I still can't help but be nervous.

oh well finally the three months waiting is going to be over.
My BF date is within two days, hopefully i will get a Decision made with landing interview date.

congrats :) i just was wondering. if u are landing, why do u need work permit. arent u automatically being able to work when u are permanent resident?

oh people bellow me already mentioned that hehe nevermind =P

Congrats Jean, great news!!! Don`t waste your time with the OWP, you can start working or finding a job once you have your PR and your landing is in a few days. Save that 150$ and enjoy that your journey is completed!
