Hola robrod; si estoy en Edmonton. One of my friends who landed earlier this year told me to go as soon as they opened. I was the third person there so it went really quick. The health card also took me two attempts because I had to go pick up the forms, bring them back for my husband to sign and take them back. Amazingly though, the health care card arrived in the mail two days later!

I started job hunting but I have a feeling it is going to take sometime. I don't know why I thought I would get the work permit and soon after get a job. Like my husband told me yesterday, "the work permit doesn't come with a job, you are going to have to be patient." Jajajajaja. ;D
MexicaTica... are you in Edmonton? what kind of job are you looking for?

Don't know if Asta is on anytime soon but I just found out that I can change the name on my passport without changing my Social Security Number first. Which is good news for me because if I had to change the SSN first, I would have to go to the US consulate in Halifax (that would costs at least $700) or go to the US which I can't do. So I am now looking into changing the name on my passport and informing Vegreville. Apparently it should only take about 2-3 months to get my passport back.

I wish I didn't have to pay $110 to get a new passport but oh well at least I will be able to receive my PR card and everything else in my new name. I didn't want to have to wait almost 3 months after landing to get my PR card just to have to request to change it. End up spending more money and then end up waiting almost a year just for a replacement PR card. ??? That just seemed too much for me. So yeah I may be a bit too excited but I can't wait to finally go by my hubby's name. ;D

I wish I could help more. Yeah I am really excited and a bit nervous too. Going to take a while to get used to a new name. I mean I have had this all my life, you know. I wish someone could help me with this application. US is confusing with how they word stuff.

Your husband had to sign your Health Card application?... Here in Ontario you don't need the spouse to sign at all. But you must have proof of where you live in order for them to mail you the card..
I got lucky, I found a job the next day I got my OWP (the very first job I applied to, in fact) which worked just like I needed: for the summer. But I think I found it that fast because it was minimum wage and without benefits.. From the good jobs I applied to, no-one called. But I will feel more confident once I am landed and my SIN is a normal number (not starting with the digit 9).
Good luck finding a job, MexicaTica!... It all depends on your skills and the labor market, of course.
La cosa esta dificil tambien en este pais, el desempleo y recortes de personal es a nivel mundial.

Yup, my husband had to sign some paperwork for me to get a health card since he was listed as my spouse. I guess it varies province to province.

Lucky you landing a job right away, that's great. It's not the best time to be entering the job market but what can you do? I will have to be positive and hope my experience and skills match up with some fabulous opportunity. :)

That's the attitude, MexicaTica!.
I'm sure you'll find something decent fast. Again, best of luck with that endeavour!.
Is it cold in Edmonton now?.. Getting chilly here in southern Ontario for sure...

Wow.. and why are they sending you this letter now?. What exactly does the letter say?
Did you receive another letter prior to this?.or is this the first?
The bright side is as soon as you send the information they may process everything. At least it is not a denial!. thats a good sign..
