Inland vs Outland sponsorship length of stay in Canada

I’m a citizen exploring the option of sponsoring my spouse for permanent residency. I understand that for Outland sponsorship there is a requirement for me to move back to Canada with my spouse and for inland there is no such requirement. My question is: after my spouse receives her permanent residency (i.e. after processing is complete), for either of these types of sponsorship, is there a required length of stay in canada for me or my spouse? What if we decide to move out of canada for employment after my spouse gets her permanent residency?

Once your spouse has PR status, she is free to leave Canada with or without you. If you both move abroad, those days spent with you will likely count towards the required Residency Obligation of 730 days (minimum) within each rolling 5 year window to maintain her status.

You must [both] be in Canada to submit an Inland application.

yes - for outland - where the canadian sponsor is living outside canada - you have to prove intent to move back
for Inland - you must be IN CANADA to apply

Yes I understand that part when the application is in progress, but there seems to be no requirement on needing to stay in Canada after my spouse gets her PR if I understand correctly?

Thanks for the reply! If I understand correctly this means even if we went the outland route, I just need to be residing in Canada at the time of PR approval, but after that me and my spouse are free to leave the country after the PR status is approved?

You can count time spent outside Canada toward the physical presence requirement for citizenship if you

• were a permanent resident employed in or with the
  • Canadian Armed Forces
  • federal public administration
  • public service of a province or territory
• lived outside Canada with your Canadian spouse or common-law partner or permanent resident spouse, common-law partner, or parent who was employed in or with the
  • Canadian Armed Forces
  • federal public administration
  • public service of a province or territory

This doesn’t include employment as a locally engaged person.
The physical presence requirement only uses time after

• becoming a permanent resident
• your common-law relationship began (for calculating residence with a common-law partner)

and yes you can leave the country for whatever reason you wish, it just may nto be as simple to renew her PR or gain citizenship

Some info on spending time outside of Canada after you've been granted permanent residency. TLDR permanent residency can be revoked if you don't meet the residency requirement.

Time lived in Canada
To keep your PR status, you must have been in Canada for at least 730 days during the last five years. These 730 days don’t need to be continuous. Some of your time outside Canada may count towards the 730 days you need.

• Find out if your time outside Canada counts toward your 730 days.
• Track your time in Canada with our travel journal.

Can I lose my permanent resident status?
Yes, you can lose your permanent resident (PR) status.
If you haven’t been in Canada for at least 730 days during the last five years, you may lose your PR status. See Understand PR Status.
You may also lose your PR status if you:

• become a Canadian citizen
• give up (renounce) your PR status
• become inadmissible to Canada

Permanent residents don’t have the same protections and privileges as Canadian citizens do. If you commit a serious offence as a PR, you may have to leave Canada permanently.

No exact rules but in general if you want to be sure you can count time outside Canada towards RO you should have established a life in Canada with your partner before leaving. If you have no intention of living in Canada there is no need to apply for PR.

Kinda what I was thinking, why pay all that money and put yourself through all that stress to not live here and then have the PR revoked?
