just a quick question about Open Work Permit

I'm going to submit my PR app as a common-law partner of a Canadian citizen.

Do I just include the work permit application form itself (IMM5710E)? or the app form with document checklist, common-law union declaration etc...? Should I photocopy my passport pages again? although I've done so for my PR app. They will be in the same envelope going to Mississauga.

I'm really confused. Please help. Thanks!

Hello everyone! After months of waiting we were pleasantly surprised to have received the OWP in the mailbox!! What joy!!

Hang in there for everyone else in the waiting. It will come!

Application received at CIC: 31st July
OWP issued: 1st December

What surprised us was that we used a lawyer yet the correspondence came directly to us! Oh well!

I sent my PR and OWP in the same envelope. PR application and OWP application has their own checklists. So, I just provided both checklist with their own required items. My PR checklist and OWP checklist each get their own photocopy of passport pages.

It was issued on 30th Nov. Application received on 27th July. Everyone who is waiting their OWP, hang in there! All the best.

Called CIC and they my OWP was approved and it was mailed on Dec 2...
so let's keep waiting on the snailmail....

As long as the course is not more than 6 months long, it's not a problem.

Personally...I'd save the money and learn (basic) French by watching YouTube tutorials.

Hello guys, I submitted my application today, it was a lot of work but now I am happy and looking forward to 2 years of waiting :-D ! I hope that I did not forget a document. Btw how many time to receive a Acknowledgement of Receipt...?

Personally...I'd save the money and learn (basic) French by watching YouTube tutorials.

that's a smart move! I think I can sign in a course less than 6 months and apply for subside of my kid's day care. :-*

So now I can access ecas but only for the applicant (using applicants UCI). It shows "Application Received".

From what I read on here recently it's typically the sponsors UCI that gets ecas access, at least initially.

Now to attempt to get health coverage from MSP which seems to be hit and miss. I"m not sure at which point inland applications ever see something showing "In Process" (anyone know?) which apparently MSP likes to see before giving coverage (despite that going against their actual written guidelines/policy).

Thanks for this km9203 and Ponga.. In Québec there are Ministry of Immigration courses for French, that are regulated differently to university ect (no 6 month limit /student visa not req.), so I can enroll in those with my Code 27 OWP, I wasn't eligible before now so very excited! After a year and a half here I'm at an intermediate level, so want to keep improving in order to find work and for life in general. Anyway, good luck with the job hunting for everyone who has just received their OWP's!

The only place that shows 'In Process' right now is on the sponsor's ecas profile. I would just print that out too and have it ready. In a sense, the PR application is for both sponsor and applicant, so... by processing our sponsor, it means they have start processing THE application? haha.

I just got my OWP and going to apply healthcare from MSP soon. Since there is the OWP, I guess I don't need to be under my husband's dependant?
That's what we thought. We will give it a go and see what they say.
