Yes, you can travel as long as you meet the requirements for reentry....if you are unable to reenter canada, your application would be determined that you abandoned it. I've been able to leave multiple times as I have an Open Work Permit. I've known many others that have left and come back--all had the necessary documents to return. Here is a link on CIC's website that discusses it. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=248&top=28

You sure it was redacted under 16(1) c???? There isn't a c...

Here is the Privacy Act, Section 16:
"
Where access is refused

16 (1) Where the head of a government institution refuses to give access to any personal information requested under subsection 12(1), the head of the institution shall state in the notice given under paragraph 14(a)

(a) that the personal information does not exist, or

(b) the specific provision of this Act on which the refusal was based or the provision on which a refusal could reasonably be expected to be based if the information existed, and shall state in the notice that the individual who made the request has a right to make a complaint to the Privacy Commissioner about the refusal.

Marginal note:Existence not required to be disclosed

(2) The head of a government institution may but is not required to indicate under subsection (1) whether personal information exists.

Marginal note:Deemed refusal to give access

(3) Where the head of a government institution fails to give access to any personal information requested under subsection 12(1) within the time limits set out in this Act, the head of the institution shall, for the purposes of this Act, be deemed to have refused to give access.

1980-81-82-83, c. 111, Sch. II “16”.

Thanks! I also have an open work permit and need to travel to the US. Have my AOR but not AIP (and no other document). Would work permit be sufficient?

If you look at the OWP, it says "does not authorise re-entry."

You are advised not to leave during an Inland app as if the border officer denies you for whatever reason, then your app could be cancelled and there is no appeal with an inland app. If you want to take that risk, it is up to you. Some people, such as Profiler, have left and been ok. The only people guaranteed entry to Canada are PR's and citizens - everyone else is up to the officer's discretion. If you are going to leave, take a copy of your whole PR package with you.

I was thinking about applying for a TRV so I can return to Canada. Question is can I apply for a TRV if the inland spousal application is in the works?

I don't know if you qualify for a TRV as you are from a visa-exempt country. I thought they were only for people from countries who are required to have a visa when entering Canada. I might be wrong though. Maybe someone else can answer this for you!

I entered Canada on TRV, did the inland application. So if i leave Canada, and re-enter then I would need to apply for a TRV.

ill ask my lawyer for more on this. dont want to take risks at this stage. thinking that if i have my AIP, ill be more confident in taking the risk. doubt that the AIP will be coming for july 2015 anytime soon (thinking probably Feb/March)

Take a look at the spreadsheet. Could be quicker, as they seem to be working on May-June apps right now.

I know how you feel... I think I mentioned before that they are processing cases now in two different streams: SIR for those cases which are straightforward and can be completed quickly, and the normal stream. SIR cases are also seeing CIC bypass SA/AIP/DM and going from AOR to landing..

Meaning that SIR cases are not following chronological order. There is nothing relating them except for document request waves.

Yeah. My gcms notes said my app was 'complete' upon completion check so hopefully it is straightforward and that's why they added it to the reduction exercise. I just wish they wuold hurry up.

If it's complete, then it's on the local VO... that's who is holding you up.
