If your TRV is still valid and has entries remaining/allowed, then that TRV w/passport should be enough for the airline to allow you to board.

What many people don't understand is that once you GET to a Canadian border, the CBSA can use your passport and CoPR (confirmation of PR) document to tell that you are a PR and will let you in.

The issue is getting to the border. Commercial carriers (air, train, boat) don't have that data so they have to see SOME document that you are allowed to enter Canada. That can either be your PR Card (obviously), or if you don't have that yet, then a PRTD, or a passport from a visa-exempt country (if asked you tell airline you are going to visit), or a passport from a NON-visa exempt country WITH a valid Canadian visa.

The airline is not going to interrogate you, they just need to see that you have something that shows you are allowed to enter Canada.

The only possible issue w/ using the passport w/TRV, is if the airline can somehow see in their system that the visa is no longer valid due to you being a PR. That seems unlikely though.

I have to apply TRV for my hubby as we are planning to leave on August 13 for vacation.

Canada post is on strike as of July 2. This may affect all the application

Canada Post services may be interrupted
If a mail disruption does take place, check our website before you apply. We will keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Are we able to send to a different courier instead of canada post.

Anyone have tried to send to different courier. Please advise.

Thank you

Perfect! this is the answer I was looking for. My TRV is still valid so the airline would have no idea that I am now a PR. I'm not worried about boarding the plane, I was just worried about what the immigration in Canada will say when I land. Thank you!

Do NOT show your COPR to the airline!

Just want to update -- Landed today in Calgary. The interview was quick and straightforward.

Application received = Nov 26, 2014
Medical done = Mar 20, 2016
SP / DM = June 22, 2016
Landing interview = June 30, 2016

Again, thanks to all of you -- having this forum has been a big help and support during the last (hardest) period of waiting. For those of you who are still waiting, best wishes!

p.s. I was instructed not to travel while waiting for the PR card. It should take ~ two months.

Hello Inlanders,

I have few questions, in regards to the PRTD, we are landing on July 14 and we are leaving on AUg 13 for vacation.

I know that I have to apply for PRTD, however there are some questions about the residency obligations.

Time Spend in Canada:
When were you physically in CAnada? List all periods you spend in canada during the past five years (5yrs). If you became permanent resident less than five years ago: list time spent in canada from the time you became a permanent resident to present.

I am confused a little bit about being physically present and from the time became PR. He came April 2008 as working visa and he will land on July 14, 2016.
Does the physical present in canada counted even working visa only or it is only counts when he became PR. Or the time that he became PR to present only. That means only 30 days. I am confused if he is elgible to apply PRTD.

If anyone can get back to me based on your expertise that would be great.

Thank you

Hello everyone,

I received a letter from cic that i need to send them Proof of cohabitation on 20 April 2016, i sent those docs 2 after i received the email, and the deadline was supposed to be on the 20 May 2016. Until now we heard absolutely nothing from cic which is about 2 months already. I am afraid that cic somehow did not receive my docs, or they just skip my application. should i give them a call and ask if they have my docs ? i am so worried :(

yes voong please do call them and ask for updates on your file and I hope you tracked your proofs when you mailed it and sure to be delivered?

Just wanted to give an update on my timeline and also have a question:

File received CIC: Dec 8, 2014
Med Request: Mar 9, 2016
SA: Jun 1, 2016
No AIP or DM
Email from CIC for Appointment for finalization of PR - Jul 7, 2016
Appt - Jul 14, 2016

The letter asks to get All your immigration document - Does this just mean Passport and work permit or does it refer something else?

Thanks!

just got landed today, everything went well and fun...thanks to everyone on this forum i really appreciate and good luck to those who're still waiting.
God bless you all.
