I got private insurance from my wife from TIC - Travel insurance coordinators. It has an inpatriate policy which also allows for pregnancy. Have had the need to make a claim as yet though.
I would second the TIC coverage - it is equivalent to the UHIP plans that cover international students.

So although we won't see the update on the CIC website until Friday at the earliest it seems....today will be the date they use as the "Last update" date.

Unless ortom gets something today, it looks like we will still be stuck in July.

It literally makes me feel sick to my stomach. Even knowing based on the lack of movement it will probably stay in July, I think I will end up crying at work when I see it.

On top of that...I know that for our application personally we have more than one reason that it will take considerably longer than the average processing speed, but it is at least encouragement for me to see the dates moving up.........the longer it takes the straightforward Apps to process....imagine one with a few issues for them to research..... :(

I feel your frustration...it really sucks to be so close yet so far away! I'm so ready for this phase in our lives to be over. Come on CIC, get your butts in gear! :p

Credit stays the same (it would be nice if it changed :p). You can check someone's credit even without a sin nr, however a sin provides a 100% accurate match (that's the case without a sin as well, unless there is 2 john smiths, living at the same address, born on same date etc, which is pretty much impossible). The new SIN nr will be associated with you automatically, it only depends on how long it takes for service canada to transmit the information to the credit bureaus,.
I work in credit..i pull reports all day..corporate and pesonal.. so i can confirm that you are 100% correcto

I am just wondering why it is everyone is talking about their foreign spouses not being able to get a health care card?

As soon as you're married you can add yourself onto your canadian spouses health care account, at least in Alberta.. All you need is your visitor extension. My husband got his own health care number last year, and we just renewed it this week as soon as his new visitor extension came in.

unfortunately this isn't true in Ontario. each province is different. Ontario requires a person to be a landed immigrant, or if applying inland, they to need prove the application is received before going through a lot of red tape to be approved for healthcare. Visitors in ontario are not eligible for OHIP, as it is assumed you are not a resident of canada. also, most employers won't even add foreign spouses to supplemental insurances without total approval or AIP.

Sorry to hear that ACS I'm so ready to be done with the whole P.R but who knows at this point. I pretty much have to tell ppl everyday that
" I don't know whats going on with my residency no one does " when ppl ask me how the process is going.
Have you tried calling them since it's past your time ? even though the call centre will just pass the buck & tell you call back in a week or a month.

It the same in Quebec, i tried to get mines and was told I have to show my COPR before I can get my RAMQ card.

Also I would have the to wait 3 month before I can get the card.

I want the time to go fast...........26th August landing intreview............

yep, ontario has a 3 month wait period too. so OHIP will not start immediately upon landing.

This is good to know, I knew I had to wait until landing to try and get my RAMQ card, I didn't know about the 3 month wait period though. I knew that was true for Ontario but did not know that about Quebec. On top of that, even if you change provinces from Quebec to Ontario you have to wait 3 months, and my husband was looking to move to the suburbs of Ottawa shortly after I'm able to help pay down some of the debt when I can finally work again. We should have just moved to Ontario before all of this, lol.

This is the language for BC MSP:

A spouse or a child of an eligible B.C. resident may also be deemed a resident provided that an application for permanent residence status has been accepted for processing by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), and the application remains active. For more information, see: http://www.health.gov.bc.ca/msp/infoben/pdf/covering-a-spouse-or-child-who-is-an-applicant-for-permanent-resident-status-in-canada.pdf

Clear as mud, isn't it? Many times BC MSP denies spouses of citizens without that spouse having PR. Or if it is a group plan through an employer, they get confused too.
