Now I'm paranoid too JHWife.

So far we have AIP and OWP.
but the letter I received asked me to renew my passport. Now I have to bounce between two offices as my home country office probably wants the old passport to renew it.
My Passport is with CBSA right now and I'm not on a bond or anything. (from previous refugee application)
I have to call CIC and let them know about the situation for my passport renewal. I don't want to mess anything up.
Hopefully, they can still process my file without that and I'll get my passport renewed close to DM.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, if someone wants to advise on my situation.

Also, on the bright side of things. Our baby is due March 10 (+- 2weeks) so in a few days I should be on alert :D

Lets look at the good things and hope everything goes through smoothly.

I wish I had advise but I'm sorta useless on this topic!

Congrats on your baby! that's amazing and certainly something to be excited over! God is great, believe that.

Still freaking out a little

This interview with CBSA has been haunting us all weekend. I've read so much about removal orders online, my head is spinning. Please anyone just give me some reassurance that AIP will be enough to hold CBSA off until DM comes through. Plus how much longer do you think DM will take? We received AIP in November, but haven't heard a thing from them since. Meds we complete on Jan 23rd. OWP was sent Dec 27. Realistically, should DM be coming through soon?

I'm just so freaked out over everything right now, this letter has rocked our world. I've been doing a lot of prayer over it.

AIP is enough for CBSA to defer enforcement of a removal order unless there is some other issue. Plus, if CIC issued an OWP, the holder of that has legal status in Canada.

No reason to be freaked out. It sounds like confusion and/or a mistake.

In fact, it is possible for CIC to permit you to land with an expired passport. They prefer NOT to do so, but if necessary, you'll have to prove that you cannot do so given the current circumstances (e.g., CBSA is holding your passport and won't release it until CIC requests it. CIC can't request it until DM. And your own country won't issue you a new passport without you surrendering the old passport.) I recently helped someone put together exactly this argument (a passport that expired in 1994 was used for landing in 2014).

Put your case in writing. Do not call them! You need to be able to demonstrate that you clearly informed them of the situation.

Good luck!

Thank you. CBSA did take my husband's passport in October after they held him on a warrant due to his expired status, they released him with the condition that he check in at the CBSA bond centre in Mississauga monthly. We've complied and done just that every single month, no issue. We only had AOR when they held in October, AIP came through November. Still waiting on DM (meds sent Jan 23/14) and still waiting on OWP which I hope comes through soon!

Thank you for your encouraging words, they mean more than you know!

Finally, medical results reflected as received online. Medical checkup done Jan 17 (Winnipeg), results received by clinic Jan 22, finally updated as received online Feb 10th! Just waiting for police clearance from SG now.

Thank you computergeek, yes you told me that it was possible to land on an expired passport.

I have to call CIC any way today. Have to update some information for the sponsor. And they requested a police certificate which in my case would not be required. Would it be negative to talk to CIC on the phone and then send them the documents (the case in writing?) I just want them to put a note on my file for the officer so they know we are acting and not ignorant about what was requested.

and by sending them everything in writing, you mean snail mail them the whole argument with some proof that we've attempted to get the passport renewed?

That's good news....by the way my letter already arrived in Vancouver on Feb 5th but it's still with customs ..i call up Canada post twice but they unable to help me ..they told me i have to wait till custom release the documents..they told me custom can hold the documents 2 to 4 days and i will get with in this week..i told them i received my first letter from Singapore within 8 days only then why taking 3 weeks this time and why custom holding my registered mail for what ?inside just got 1 piece of paper?? :-\ :-\ :-\

A little update to my situation:

Last Friday I received the AIP which didn't indicate submitted and paid OWP application. It only said "You can now apply for OWP" instead.

I called CIC this morning and the agent was able to confirm that OWP had been approved and was mailed out last Friday (the same day I received email AIP).

So sometimes the wording in AIP can be very inaccurate and inconsistent to the actual situation.

Have you considered talking with an experienced immigration lawyer (not a consultant)? The law firm that provides this website for us, offers a free phone consultation, which might help give you some idea of what's happening.

Since you received this removal order after AIP, I have to wonder if they have found something in your husband's background that they want to discuss, or...they have mistakenly linked that discovery to him. Maybe???

Would I not have heard anything from CIC rather than CBSA? I mean we sent in the police check which clearly stated he has no criminal past history, no arrested etc. Could it just be that CBSA hasn't been informed that my husband has received AIP seeing as we only had AOR when they detained him in October? I would think that subject to removal order due to finding something in his past or linking him to something would have deemed a DM on our application, which states is still "In Process" and confirmed that it was still "In Process" by talking to an agent on Friday.

Agreed, but from what I have read, CIC and CBSA both review an applicants past history, to some degree AFTER AIP (which is your approval to sponsor him) and before DM...his approval.

I agree with others that had suggested not researching anymore online. I suggest you call a lawyer and see what, if anything, they can tell you to ease your mind.

The bottom line is that you may not find out what the issue is, until you arrive for the interview.
