I have a question about OWP.

I sent my OWP appplication on November 28 (while the PR application was sent in March). I just called CIC and was informed that they are working on OWP received on November 10. Can anybody comment on whether this timeline is accurate?

Thanks!
SS.Kingston
The website is saying that they're only processing November 3rd WPs and that the process takes 60 days. Since your OWP was based on your AIP, it's possible that you were already in the queue. It shouldn't be too much longer for you. You're almost there! :) Here's the link to the page where I found the info:

Congrats, AmyJP! Looking forward to hearing more good news today! I'm checking my email everyday now!

Also, I was thinking of calling CIC as hubby and I sent in a bit more unrequested relationship support documents (car lease, insurance papers, photos etc.) at the beginning of December. I called two weeks after to see if they had been joined up with our original application and the agent said that there was no record of it being joined up but that it was too soon for them to join up the documents with the original application. Seeing as how they're processing stuff now for March applicants, should I call back and ask if the additional unrequested info has been joined up with our original application?
We also sent some additional unrequested support documents in at the end of December. I'm a little worried with them processing at this new pace that they won't get matched up in time. Does anybody know typically how long it takes for CIC to process mail received and match these additional documents up with your file?

Congrats to those who got their aip and dms!!! :)

I have a question: has anyone tried opening a bank account in canada? I need to open one but apparently they need canadian id or proof of legal status here. Theres no proof i can show them since im on implied status ( sent inland pr with owp on august 20 2013). Has anyone successfully opened an account here?
First of all, congratulations on your baby girl! What a blessing! :)

In regards to the bank account, I am American and I was able to open one at TD as a visitor. I used my passport and drivers license as identification, and they didn't question or hassle me at all. I simply said I was visiting for 6 months and would be depositing/transferring money to the account from my American account so that I could support myself during my stay. I hadn't yet applied for PR at that time, but if I were opening an account now, I would bring any documentation of my application being in process.

Your sponsor may be able to add you to an already existing account, if the bank gives you a hard time about opening your own.

I would go to the branch you're interested in opening an account at and explain your situation. Hopefully you'll catch them after they've had their coffee ;)

Go ahead and do your medical. The wait time for stage 2 is "officially" 8 months according to the CIC website. Your medical is valid for 1 year from the date it is done. Since you already have AIP, I think it's safe to prepare for stage 2. Getting your medical out of the way and sent off means that there will be less delay when CIC asks for it, then you have to get it done and sent it off.

When OWP is approved, it will be mailed to you. I'm not 100% sure myself on the SIN number portion of your question, so instead of providing half-truth answers, I'll let another person get back to you on this part.
Thanks a bunch! I was worried if we jumped the gun and did the medical without being asked that we would cause a problem, but good to know we can do it without actually having to be told by CIC to get it done!

So I can expect them to mail the OWP once approved, its just what to do after we receive it that I'm still in a grey area on.

I appreciate your response thanks a million!

Hi Jenn,

How come you got your aip so early< did you have an interview?
I will break down the steps leading up to the AIP letter....

~Hubby came to Canada on a work permit.
~Work permit expired about a month after we were married
~We were married November 2011
~Paper work didn't go in till March 2013
~October 2013 hubby was stopped by OPP and upon running his name in the system saw immigration had a warrant for him for the expired visa, Immigration detained my hubby for about 2 hrs, I was asked to bring $2500 for bond, but was later told not to bother because they said my hubby isn't a trouble maker, he was respectful, and answered all their questions truthfully, they were impressed with his cooperation and his over all pleasant attitude. We were told he'd have to check in with the local immigration office once a month, we've been doing do since November 4th.
~ About a week after this I was contacted by CIC in Mississauga asking for supporting documents such as our lease, car insurance slips, ownership to show our address, we struggle with infertility and they know this from our application, so I was asked to supply a letter from our fertility specialist showing we are under his care and actively undergoing treatments to obtain pregnancy, that I've had tests and surgery for infertility as well. The my hubby is also a patient of his. After we sent all the supporting documents about a week and a half later we received the AIP letters.

:)

Thanks for sharing, JHwife! I was also curious about your timeline. I'm happy to hear that it all worked out. It just goes to show the effect that a positive attitude can have! I'm glad your hubby took the 'high road'! :)

Best of luck!

Thanks. It really isn't in is personality anyway to make a scene, or fight and argue. Besides, he hasn't done anything wrong, so he knew there wasn't anything to argue over. He just remained respectful...he was just himself. I was shocked how quickly we go the AIP letters but we are just happy its moving in a forward direction. Its just you have a million questions during the process and it gets a little overwhelming at times! But you all are a great resource to turn to!

Thanks a lot Mrs_Canuck!

Let's hope that I receive my OWP before February 3. My OHIP expired on Nov 5, and I had 90 days to renew it with a work permit. Really don't want to go back to the OHIP waiting list...

We got our AIP and OWP today! (Jan 13)

Wow what an amazing feeling! Just last night I was commenting to my partner about how fast they seem to be whipping through the Feb. applications, and then in the middle of a really crappy work day today he texted a dozen smiley faces and a lot of exclamation marks my way saying "CHECK YOUR EMAIL!" I was in class but definitely let out a squeal when I read it!

For reference: Sent Mar 15 / AOR Mar 27 / Meds and Police check sent in with app / OWP sent in with app

Good luck to the Feb/March applicants! It's coming!
Congrats amyjp

Hi filipina311, Congrats to having your baby girl :)
You'll definitely need to inform CIC with the new addition to your family..
Anyway, you wont be able to open a sole bank account based on your implied status..
You'll need to have legal status for that as all banks do not allow any foreigners to have a local bank account.
My partner and I did open a joint bank account though, he's canadian so I think they allowed me(no legal staus, just implied status) to be added as a secondary account holder..
So maybe you can try that route first and when you get your legal status, you can have your own!
Hope that helps! :)

Hi All,

My husband is in implied status, and he has bank accounts and credit cards.

He used his ontario licence to open the bank accounts.

About the bank account! As long your husband or partner has legal status here & 2 piece I'd you can open it together (joint account) they will just ask you for your passport, just explain them about your immigration process with some prove. I know somebody who is in your same situation! He didn't have any problems to get one from BMO.
