My husband's License from Costa Rica has long since expired, and he is only here on Implied Status, as he arrived on a Visitor Visa in 2010. We applied for a Visitors Extention before his 6 months was up, so there is his Implied Status. They never ever replied about his extention, although we have proof that they recieved it. Our PR app was submitted August 2013.Cjohn said:You can apply for a driver's license now. It would help if you have your driving records and certificate from your country of origin. If you don't have it then you just have to follow the process from a learner's permit to a full license. But either way, you can apply for one now.
Us too...though I feel worse for those that are here that applied in July and still haven't heard anything. I'm hoping when it finally does start moving it does so in a big way.princesultan said:approaching the 13 month mark for us..... ughhhh
My partner is on a visitor's status and she was able to get a driver's license in BC.ACS said:My husband's License from Costa Rica has long since expired, and he is only here on Implied Status, as he arrived on a Visitor Visa in 2010. Given the above circumstances, would he still be able to apply for a Driver's License now? And if so, any idea how we go about it? (we are located in Ontario, if that makes any difference.)
It would certainly lighten my load if my husband could drive occasionally....I'm not only working 2 jobs, but driving for all events (i.e. not being able to drink when we go out! lol...and all driving for our child's events, grocery shopping, etc)
Thanks for any info and advice on this!!! Maybe something positive despite all this frustrating wait..... *hopeful*
We applied for it in 2011. They say they can't find it though we have the confirmation from when they recieved it and got a msg that it was transfered to Etobicoke.Linden said:My partner is on a visitor's status and she was able to get a driver's license in BC.
When did you apply for a visitor's extension? If it's been past the processing you should contact CIC about it. Its an application you paid for so you should hear something back about it.
The only thing we heard from CIC after AOR was about the transfer to Mississauga, and heck even then we had to call for AOR, we never even received a letter or email.Princess029 said:August applicants who are almost on their 13 months, have you ever heard anything from CIC after the AOR? I'm the same thing it's going to be my 13 months in two weeks. I feel depressed all this. I was hoping by this time everything is finished.
Hmm weird. You mean got an email that it got transferred to Etobicoke?ACS said:We applied for it in 2011. They say they can't find it though we have the confirmation from when they recieved it and got a msg that it was transfered to Etobicoke.
Also, Alberta here and when I have gone and spoken with the people at the registry regarding my partner's visa, they have always said he can't do it without a SIN or T-SIN, which he cannot get on implied status. My partner's friends are all telling him that if I call the CIC call centre and explain our situation that they can make the application go faster (which I think we all know is not true). Anyways, I called today (even though I think it is useless) because he asked me too. Of course nothing. The lady was like, "They haven't processed your application because they are processing application from July 30." I said something along the lines of, "Okay, but they have been processing July 30th applications for over a month." The lady then said something along the lines of, "Well, if you have the answers then why are you calling?". I feel like crying.Scarlett_R said:Yes, it does help having your driving records from your country of origin but when I got my drivers license in Alberta I was asked to provide a copy of my work permit and they only issued the license until the expiration date of my work permit...
Last week I had an agent say, "Well yours is May 2013. We are 12 months now and that's just barely over that.".AchankengCrawford said:Also, Alberta here and when I have gone and spoken with the people at the registry regarding my partner's visa, they have always said he can't do it without a SIN or T-SIN, which he cannot get on implied status. Fingers crossed for Ortom, Nurse 2012, and all the other July applicants. #julyforever

Unfortunately in BC I can not issue a Driver's License without a visa, since I'm on implied status.Cjohn said:You can apply for a driver's license now. Come to ontario. Apply for new driver licence. Once you get it, transfer it to BC.Brazilian Canadian said:Unfortunately in BC I can not issue a Driver's License without a visa, since I'm on implied status.
I need to redo the exam, even I have 10 years of license, they don't accept just transfer it from my country.
And they specifically told me if I am waiting for PR, I have to wait for a official document to request the exam.
