Hi everyone,

I have a question for those with more experience in the forum. I currently hold a PGWP that expires Oct. 2014. We sent our sponsorship application and applied for OWP at the same time on July 31, 2013. I am not sure if I should wait for CIC to do AIP and send the OWP or if I can apply online to extend my current PGWP or simply apply online for the OWP now. I know I still have some time until October but given how slow the progress has been, I am a bit concerned of losing my job, especially as I will be going on Mat leave in August and this will affect my benefits, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

AFAIK, an OWP would not extend your PGWP.

Since you included the OWP with your Inland application, you cannot do anything now but wait for AIP...which should be any day now!

Yes, as long as you had valid status at the time that you sent your Inland application and OWP. Even someone that did hold IEC or PGWP would have the same implied status, but would not be able to continue working.

Thanks Ponga, do you know if by any chance the AIP was denied or they had a hold up of any kind (mor einfomration requests, etc.) could anything like that delay the OWP or is the granting of the OWP a separate process? Just wondering if there's any links between those two applications...

Pongga, did you say I'm not able to work once my WP expires with the same employer?

Yes it would, because the OWP application isn't even processed until you have AIP. It is the AIP that makes you officially eligible for an OWP...not the mere submission of the Inland sponsorship application.

Someone on PGWP CAN continue working on implied status. IT IS NOT the same thing as IEC. I've said this over and over in the forums and Ponga, you keep telling people the wrong information! Please, people on PGWP, call CIC and have them confirm to you that if you are on PGWP and applied for an OWP along with the inland app, YOU ARE ON IMPLIED STATUS AND CAN CONTINUE TO WORK UNDER THE SAME CONDITIONS.

It is so frustrating to see this said again and again when it is false information. I'm sorry, I hadn't said anything the last three times I saw it but I feel bad for the people that get told this! If you don't believe me call CIC, any officer will tell you this.

Only if you had IEC or PGWP...which you said that you do NOT have.

I just called CIC and they actually confirmed this information. You can continue to work on PGWP as long as you had applied for OWP with inland app. Then again, if I call again tomorrow someone in CIC might tell me differently, but I'm going to just wait and see what happens. Hopefully our AIPS and OWPs will start coming soon!
Good luck everyone

This is wrong. They CAN continue working. Please people don't quit your jobs, confirm with CIC first that you can continue to work under implied status with PGWP.

Well, I do NOT keep telling people the wrong information. I KEEP telling people what I have learned while being here.

This does NOT mention a person with a valid PGWP.

Oh...and are you aware that sometimes (perhaps > 50% of the time) the call centre agents don't even have the correct answers!!

You keep telling people they can't continue working. I received several emails and confirmation from CIC agents (which is more reliable than random civilians in my opinion) that if you're under PGWP you CAN continue to work. I've said this to you in the past, but you just seemed to ignore me.
It changes a lot of lives that this is possible. It is very important that people get the right information, I always tell people to confirm with CIC or something because somebody could stop working just from seeing your post. I know you're pretty wise in this area and I have complete respect for you, so I didn't mean to sound confrontational, I just hope that you know that sometimes giving people wrong information can change their lives. Trust me on this, I don't know much but people with PGWP please don't worry because you can continue to work! I have done it, CIC knows that I have done, it's FINE.

Imagine this:

CIC decides to make it crystal clear, by allowing ANYONE (no matter the type of WP that they currently hold) to continue working, under implied status, while they await their PR application assessment.

Now THAT would solve everything!
