Hello everyone, just wondering if anyone is getting AIP, DM or anything positive from CIC yet?

nothing this week and last week yet ...

I believe you should be next to hear whenever they start giving AIP. You are next on the Time Sheet. I really hope all of July hears this week...no reason we shouldn't. they've been stuck in July for months now!

Hi everyone, how long does it take for the OWP to arrive in the mail? We're still waiting on ours.

I haven't seen any of your posts saying you received an email from CIC saying that the OWP has been approved. Until you get an OWP approval, you can't wait for it in the mail. You only mentioned that you got sponsor approval for PR but no word on your husband getting AIP. OWP will not be approved until at least your husband get AIP first despite you getting sponsor approval. There has been cases of sponsor approvals but the applicants never gotten their AIP yet thus couldn't get their OWP approved yet.

My husband also received his AIP soon after and it said the OWP has been approved, which is why I was wondering when the physical copy shows up in the post?

I would expect to get the OWP in the mail in a couple of weeks after email OWP approval notice. If you haven't received it, your husband would have to call CIC to complain about it. CiC will not accept your call anymore unless you are added as representative on his behalf.

I tried to call CIC to complain about getting the landing letter on my wife's behalf. They simply refuse to talk to me unless I was added as representative. They cite privacy of the applicant despite that I'm the one who started the PR papers and financially responsible of her for 3 years.

While the rules are different here regarding DUI, the husband didn't follow the law of the respective country by drinking and driving even though it is more strict than ours. He is going to have a hard time convincing CIC that he didn't "really" break the law of his country because ours has a bit looser rule over his country. Why should he be above the law in his country just because he is applying for PR in Canada.

Another example. Although it is an unrelated subject. The age of consent in canada is 16. But it differs around the world. What if a person from Cyprus was charged with underage sex with a 16 year old minor even though the child consented, where the legal age of consent is 17. Does this mean CiC can ignore the charge because our law says age of consent is 16.

The point I am making is that while charges may not be the same if it was done in Canada, the charges are still serious charges to convince CIC otherwise.

Nobody should be drinking and driving regardless of the alcohol amount found in the blood, at 0.05 or at 0.08. Remember those on the graduate driver licence system should not have any alcohol period.

I don't think anyone is endorsing drinking and driving, and I'm not sure if this person would be deemed inadmissible or not. The website says that you are inadmissible if you've been convicted of a crime in the Criminal Code of Canada, which does not apply here. (My understanding of that is that your hypothetical person from Cyprus would not be deemed inadmissible.) I know that Border Control (the TV show) is not a super reliable source of information, but everytime on that show someone has a criminal record, they have to look up if it is equivalent to a crime in Canada. If, for example someone in was charged with homosexuality in their home country, Canada would not deem them inadmissible based on their criminal record because homosexuality is not a crime here. The also says that if you've been found driving while impaired that you are probably inadmissible.

I think it will be up to the officer that does the interview and dependent on exactly what happened. More information can be found here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/inadmissibility/conviction.asp SmithyLinds, I suggest that you read all of this page and prepare a strong argument why your partner should be deemed rehabilitated. Read up on the UK vs. Canadian laws, including maximum sentencing, as well as search for examples of others with criminal records who have entered the country. Can your partner apply for a pardon back at home? If so, they should definitely do so. It is also very important how long ago this occurred - see eligibility for rehabilitation: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5312ETOC.asp#5312E4

It's getting pretty ridiculous eh. No idea how they will ever get through applications at this pace. This process is so daunting for us all... it's hard to say hang in there, when that's all we've been doing for so long!

I hope they issue work permits right away... last thing hubby wants is to get AIP and then sit and wait weeks for an OWP ugh !

I was also expecting some AIP's early this week since they have no work done for Canada week, they work so slowly that it's inadmissible to have 2 weeks with no progress again. It seems time frame is so long already that they don't care anymore. I can't help but think they will pass the 12 months mark and that's going to be very bad for all of us waiting for 1st stage. DM and AIP are given so close together lately and I wish they would concentrate on 1st stage for now, so people like me can go back to work, have a driver's license, and health care.

I agree...I would rather go ahead and get the 1st stage done so I'm not stuck at home while waiting for DM, and have to wait for DM for another few months. I am glad that they're trying to get everything done at once, but to go this long without a work permit is terrible! Not to mention, if they're doing it like this, there's no reason to even have sent an application for OWP, just because once you get DM it's only a matter of time before you're PR and you don't even need one anymore.

I do hope we see at least a couple of AIPs this week, it would definitely help keep our spirits up. :)

Guys some good news! After calling thrice yesterday for little or no use. The third agent told me that after the message they sent to CPC-M about my application passing the date on the website, they replied saying they'll forward the issue to the supervisor while telling me that he went like 'oh it looks like the first stage has been approved just waiting on the letters to be issued' should see them within a week or so.

Long story short: This morning I got my AIP + DM! :D I'm so happy, I was worried my application would get lost.. I was a little out of queue but it's good to know that they're still doing something in there!

I wish you all goodluck. Good news will come for all of us just hang in tight!
