So we know there has been a slight bit of movement FINALLY from the Mississauga office....

Wonder what our chances are of seeing another date than July8...I am soooo tired of seeing July 8...lol

Seems since we got the letters that our files were offficially moved to Mississauga, they must have changed who it is that updates our Processing Time page. They don't seem to update it until Friday or Saturday now, right?!?

Hope to see some more AIPs and DMs on here soon! Congrats to all who have recieved! I LOVE seeing these!!! :)
I agree, I love seeing all the great news! I'm excited again to check the forums to see who else received good news for the day. :)

Actually Cmathslu If you get AIP you can go to school. Instead of applying for an OWP when you get AIP you can apply for a study permit. You would have to have a letter of acceptance from the school you are going to attend. The only downfall is even with AIP some schools still require you to pay international fees.
I'm a lurker here but I just wanted to say that from first hand experience,
You only need a student visa IF you are attending the institution in person. If it is via distance ed you do not need a student visa, no matter how long the program. You do not need AIP, you can enrol in distance classes with a visitor visa. As long as you get accepted into a program and if there is an option to do only online courses even as a part time student while you wait for PR you can do it.

Also in Ontario (and I think all of Canada), if you are a dependant, legally married/common law with affidavit, to a Canadian Citizen/PR , you do not pay International visa fees.
Check with your university/college admissions/regulations department.
All i had to do was submit a copy of my marriage certificate to qualify for domestic fees at uni. You have to communicate with the Admissions department, as most staff are unaware of this.

Section 5.9: if you need to be in canada even if it's less than 6 months (to write finals etc) then you will STILL need a study permit.

Where did you attend school? I'll try contacting the admin of my uni but pretty sure the assess international fees until COPR but then again, different schools different rules.

not all of them get that. I was never able to see mine either. I think it again depends on the VO that is processing your application if they choose to update it or not. *shrugs*

It was probably different for me as I only went back for one university credit to finish my degree at University of Guelph, So less than 6 months and I was not even in Canada for 90% of the course as I was travelling. Check your International Student Fees Exemptions section at your university website. Exemptions will be listed there.

Yah I'm doing a semester of courses right now so I don't need a study permit :) U of G is in ON so you guys have the exemption. I go to univerdity of Alberta. No such regulations in AB but it doesn't hurt to inquire as that will save me thousands towards future education.

Hi Bruneian, are you on a study permit?? I applied at the University of Calgary and if memory serves me correct in Alberta you do need AIP from CIC to pay domestic fees. In Ontario at a majority of the universities you are allowed to pay domestic fees if you are married to a citizen or a PR.

Hi jamique,

I have a PGWP right now but will be attending uni again this fall, and I am changing my status then. That is very good to hear as that will save us more than $12k/yr for sure!
