Thanks for the info. I only received the pdf file , hopefully ill get the open work permit in the mail soon..

btw ECAS stopped working for me too all of a sudden.

I just talked to an agent, she said they have problems with the ecas; they working on it.

My meds showed up in their system in less than 2 month.
Ps: if the call center says the waiting time is more than 30 min , don't give up i got through in 2 min, it was weird.

Thanks Wolanila thats a big help, cuz I'm starting to make plans and I can't start without the actual work permit. I have no idea why it took 3 months for my friend to get his.

I applied mine on 19 nov 2012.
Called them on monday, agent said cant see my app in system??....
I was shocked, so she sent me an email to fill out some info and fwd to technical dept.....
Hope dsnt happen to u.

how long does it take in general to go from IN PROCESS to seeing something on ecas?

very long... I already have AIP but it still says in process and application received.

I felt I had to post something because we had fallen off the front page due to lack of activity. So I will just say "I hope everyone is having a good day and hang in there!"

so they send an "AIP email" to the sponsor? I guess there's not much point in checking ECAS almost obsessively and on a daily basis then! ;)

Oh boy.... I think I made a time costing mistake on the app :o

My husbands work visa was going to expire in Dec so in Nov we filed for an extension (online) before the 30 days expiration period so he was not out of status while we gathered our other documents to submitt the Sponsorship App - which was submitted (by mail) and we have the AOR.

I have now noticed that the UCI is different for the work permit extension and the sponsorship app. I already assume the visa extension will be denied with no other Sponsorship App to reference along with it- no big deal (just a waste of money - I suppose) but how should I go about now including a OWP with our sponsorship app ?? Where do I find that form (if it is different than the extension request) and how much is that? Should I wait until I actually get a denial letter regarding the visa extension before submitting another type of request with our application for sponsorship ? Do I make sense ?? I feel like Im rambling :-\

Finally got my GCSM notes. Says I passed medicals. They are still processing stage two. Thank God so far all is fine and thank you Computergeek and Ichib for answering all my questions. Rusty53 please do update AIP for me January 31st.

Thanks Rusty we do need to keep it on the first page.

Yup, Ecas really isn't reliable you basically wait for the AOR email to your sponsor , then you get happy and wait again then You get AIP emails on both sponsor and applicant, you get happy and then wait again, while your e-cas remains "in process" unchanged all through this..

GCMS.

Global Case Management System. This is the computer system that has replaced CAIPS and FOSS - CAIPS was used for overseas processing, FOSS for in-Canada. Hence the "Global" solution - one system for in and out of Canada.

If you go to the CIC website, look for "privacy act" and you will find the forms for ordering your notes - if you ask for your own information you are asking under the "privacy act" and there is no charge. If you ask for someone else's information (with their written permission) you are making the request under the "access to information" and there is a $5 fee.

The person sending the request must be inside Canada.
