I am on spouse sponsorship and have just landed a few months ago. I and my husband (who is Canadian citizen as my sponsor) both come back to HK after landing because I have to continue my job for at least one more year as agreed with my employer in HK. I and my husband have married for more than 10 years and have always been living together in HK. Now I have my PR status approved, we are planning to relocate to Canada for good and so want to start invest in property for rental income in Vancouver. While both of us is living in HK for now, we won't live in Canada for more than 183 days in the coming year. We understand the rental income in Vancouver will be subject to Canada tax, yet we want to clarify if my employment income in HK in the coming year will be subject to Canada worldwide tax as well?
My husband has a son (Canadian) who is 26 years old and currently living in Toronto on his own. Will this be regarded as my 'residential ties' in Canada and as a result I am a tax resident subject to worldwide income tax?
