Hello... me again!

Scenario: Us citizen moved here on work visa expiring end of 2018. We got engaged and will get married shortly and reside in Canada. We are planning to apply for outland sponsorship since everyone says its faster:)

A few more questions:
1) Is there in/out privileges in the outland sponsorship in the above scenario? If not, is there privileges under inland?

Does anyone know a good (hopefully not to expensive lawyer) in Toronto area?

Nora

The right to enter Canada is only guaranteed to citizens and PRs. All others can be refused at the border, for various reasons. So you can never count on the privilege to enter the country. That said, with a work visa in hand, there shouldn't be an issue crossing the border.

When applying inland, one of the requirements is that the couples be cohabitating in Canada. If the applicant is refused entry for some reason, or if they are out of the country for a long time, the VO can decide that they no longer meet the requirement and refuse the application. If the applicant is unable to enter Canada, then the application would be deemed abandoned.
In the case of outland, there is no requirement to be living in Canada, so if the applicant were to be refused entry for any reason, it would have no impact on the application.

Is there a particular reason that you feel the need to hire a lawyer? They are generally only recommended in complicated cases (such as those with criminality issues). We have seen many cases on the forum where the lawyer has caused delays and interviews due to their mistakes or poor advice.

I thought a laywer would be safer:)

We want to get married now, file the outland sponsorship, and then have the "celebration" in las vegas next year. I was concerned about in/out... thought having a lawyer to call would give some piece of mind:) But sounds like it may not...

As a US/CAN couple, the level of scrutiny is much lower than other applicants. Depending on the rest of your relationship profile, there shouldn't be any issues at all with having a big celebration at a later time. There is a question on the forms that asks if you have had a reception, and if not, why. So you could say that you'll be having that at X date in Y place, for Z reason.

Most US applicants have no problem crossing the border, especially with a valid work permit. Apply outland.

Simple answer:

No and no. Lawyer won't change the answer.

Scylla, are you saying "No there is not in/out privileges in outland" and there is "No in/out privileges in inland"

Not sure what the "No and No" was in reference to:)

There are no privileges for neither. Everything is up to discretion of the border guards. But as a US citizen with a work permit the likelihood of denial to return to Canada is quite low for you. Just understand that it's not 100% guaranteed.
If you really worry about getting denied why not swap Las Vegas for Vancouver or Banff, Quebec City or other beautiful and fun places?

An inland application will not give you in and out privileges.
An outland application will not give you in and out privileges.

Banff is gorgeous or Kelowna :)

Thanks all for the clarification!

We chose Vegas because that is where my fiance and his family reside...not really negotiable.
And the wedding aside, he travels back and forth for work as well!
