Thank You!! I have imported my car to London, ON. I would like to do the modification for my 2014 Camry. I guess, I just need to change the ODO to read KMs instead of Miles, are there any RIV authorized service center that I should go for the modification. I would like to know how to find such service centers here.

go to Canada Tire. These guys know what all modifications RIV needs in your car.

I went to a nearby Canadian Tire. I was asked to go to the Toyota dealer for converting ODO to read metric. I am sure dealer would be very expensive, do you guys know any better place than the dealer? It looks like there's just one Toyota dealer in the London area.

i'd recommend looking up the registered mechanic on the RIV website for your area. It is usually a canadian tire and they should be able to do any of the modifications needed. i'm surprised the one you talked to sent you to a dealeraship. perhaps the one you went to doesn't do RIV inspections for imports. In my experience the dealerships don't do these modifications...

Canada tire can do minor modifications but this issue "might" require replacing odometer as it appears that Camry does not have switch to flip odometer from miles to kms. This is several thousand $$$ expense and only Toyota can help him here.

question to the OP. were you specifically told the odometer needs to be changed as part of your RIV inspection or are you assuming it needs to be changed? my car's odometer is in miles and there was no requirement for it to be modified to KM during my import inspection. it's been on the road in canada for 2 years without registration or insurance issues.

Modifications should not be assumed and should only be done to pass the RIV inspection as specified by the RIV mechanic. It is important to not do anything prior to bringing the car to the registered mechanic. let them confirm what needs to be done. not all modifications listed on the form are relevant to every car.

Thank You CDNPR2014. You saved my $$$. I was assuming that I needed to do the modification. I will go to another Canada Tire and check with them.

Read this. Looks like you just need a label that says Odometer reads in miles. No need to replace odometer.

Looks like you got the info, but yeah the odometer doesn't need to be changed. I didn't even get a sticker in 2007, but was able to pass.

there's no reason to "check" what you need to get done. assuming you started the import process with the CBSA, the best thing to do is go to the registered mechanic for the RIV inspection and they will confirm what is needed. more than likely, it is only a matter of getting the daytime running lights turned on. the "check" for modifications is part of the inspection process.

Re: Importing my Car - DRL Question

I took my car for inspection today @ one of the canadian tires authorized for inspection. I was told everything is ok except the DRL, in my car (2014 Camry) there's a feature for turning off the DRL. I was asked to go to the dealership to get the DRL to run continuously instead of having the switch off feature and the Candian tire mechanic is even not sure if Toyota could do that. I am now confused / worried :( Is it even possible to do that or should I replace the whole unit - I am ok even if I have to replace the unit. Today being Sunday, dealership is closed.
Can you guys shed some light on DRL please?

I still have my US license plates, US license and US insurance. If I make a trip to the US, would they stop me from entering with a US vehicle now that my passport shows no status in the US other than a visitor visa ?

go to a Toyota service center. They'll install/enable the DRL.
