I sent an appeal as well in June only got an acknowledgement that it will take 6-8 weeks to hear back from them. How long averagely does it take to get feedback from them?

Ok, got my response from the OHIP appeals office today, finally. It was denied. CIC told them my PR application had not reached the stage yet to determine if I was eligible or not. :( Of course, I was expecting it, but still upsetting. I'm hoping that this will at least give me grounds to skip the 3-month waiting period once I do get COPR.

oh, that is not good! I was also expecting this in ur case when I saw ur timeline. U r still pretty "fresh", so just appeal again in maybe a month or two? Someone here described similar situation, and they repeated everything after a while, with success, before getting COPR.

Yeah, hoping to have my COPR in the next month or two so I don't have to do another appeal. Seemed like the Ottawa VO was averaging at around 6-8 months there for a little while. Some March and April applicants from Ottawa have some how already received COPR. :p

how do you want to do it without appeal? in Service Ontario they will tell you u have to wait 3 months from landing, if I understand it all correctly. So what having COPR in your hand changes? I am asking, cuz maybe I can go there today and be covered, as I have both COPR and PR already, but I thought they will make me wait 3 months without this appeal. Won't they?

I'm hoping that with the appeal letter in hand showing I have been "living" in Ontario all this time, they'll give me OHIP right away. According to the letter, I've met the residency requirement (having lived in Ontario for at least 3 months), I just haven't met the requirement of being declared eligible by CIC for PR. If nothing else, I have an Ontario driver's license issued in September 2014 that proves I've been living here since at least then. Without these things they just assume you only arrived to Canada when you landed, hence the 3 month wait.

No, the appeal decision you have now will not help you. As ashia says, wait a couple months and then write the OERC and ask them to check again. If you don't do that, when your COPR comes, they will still make you wait 3 months.

First of all Thank you to all for the info, especially you bartjones! ;D

We are still in early stages, spousal sponsorship app outland rec'd on July 13, but certainly want to get all the info we can before we move. We are moving in October to Ontario and we will be waiting out the decision there...I am trying to get a bit of a timeline to get the written refusal letter to send on to OERC...am I right to think it would be good to wait until around the end of November, beginning of December? That would be approx 6mnths into our process. We have a pretty straightforward case, going through Vienna(hubby from Germany).

Also maybe someone can anwer me this...we have 2 children born here in Germany, 3 and 5 now, and 2 weeks ago I applied for their Proof of Canadian Citizenship, I have dual german/canadian citizenship. Does anyone know how that would work with them being OHIP covered? Will they have to wait the 3 months when we arrive in October or would I be able to apply now for them already?
TIA!!!

If you come in October, get your driver's license ASAP. They will accept that as proof of residence, but you have to wait 3 months from that time anyway, so I'd only apply after 3 months has passed from the time you arrive.

I think your other question was answered on the other forum.

No. They will look at the date your driver's license was issued and calculate 3 months from there to determine residency.

That's not the only way to determine residency however, so if you're having trouble getting your driver's license, don't worry.

Here's the official list of documents OHIP will accept for proof of residency (List 2):www.forms.ssb.gov.on.ca/mbs/ssb/forms/ssbforms.nsf/GetFileAttach/014-9998E-82~1/$File/9998-82E.pdf

You must have 1 of these documents exactly as it's written, no exceptions (i.e. if it says a mailed document, then you can't use printouts).

As mentioned there is no point applying right away since there's a 3 months waiting period anyways. So it's ok to take a few months getting 1 of these documents. Even if you apply on the 90th day, you will get your OHIP # immediately to start using while waiting for card to arrive in the mail.
