Any chance that government will be shut down tomorrow and the ceremonies postponed? Lots of govt offices in the UK will be, for instance.
I personally don't think there's any chance. This isn't the UK. They will fly flags at half mast and maybe have a moment of silence. But I personally don't think anything is going to shut down.Any chance that government will be shut down tomorrow and the ceremonies postponed? Lots of govt offices in the UK will be, for instance.
The funeral day could possibly be a national holiday (mourning day). Usually the funeral is 10 days after the death which I think falls on a Sunday. If they decide to make a national holiday on a weekday then possibly oaths on that day will be re scheduledHope they don't cancel or postpone :S .... after such a long wait ,,,, How about the form we have to sign ? will they revise it before the ceremony
?
Nothing is shut here at all.....it's been given to each individual business or govt dept to decide what they do.I personally don't think there's any chance. This isn't the UK. I understand your frustration about the delay but you're making a big deal out of what name appears on the certificate/passport. What difference does it make, really ?I look back upon my post back in November 2021 with much poignancy. At that time, I expressed my wish that I would get my Canadian citizenship while the Queen is still alive. But, as has transpired, it was not meant to be, because my oath ceremony is next week.
If IRCC had been more efficient in processing, I'd have got my citizenship certificate and my first Canadian passport with Queen Elizabeth's name on them.
The Queen is a well loved figure. It is so sad.
Finally Scotland can be free. I have a Scottish friend who hates England...I understand your frustration about the delay but you're making a big deal out of what name appears on the certificate/passport. What difference does it make, really ?
I was reading that in Toronto at least, when Edward VII died, a LOT of oaths had to be redone of most officials etc, i.e. they did mass oath renewal ceremonies of the Toronto police force. Thanks for sharing! I think it refers to those who have already taken their oath, no need to retake the oath since it included "and her heirs & successors".
thanks for sharingI have seen a post on Facebook , ceremonies were conducted yesterday and today with the Oath revised. For now , no cancellations.
They voted NO.Finally Scotland can be free. I have a Scottish friend who hates England...
For sentimental reasons. Some people care about these things, and I was not making a big deal out of this.I understand your frustration about the delay but you're making a big deal out of what name appears on the certificate/passport. What difference does it make, really ?
