Immigration size photos! Where?

Hi everyone... My husband is currently in the states (nj to be exact) and he is having the hardest time finding someone to do canadian immigration sized photos even with the specifications they require. My question is... How strict are they on this? We have tried costco, cvs, walmart, Walgreens, target, kinkos and even a studio that all say they can do only 2X 2. Should I risk this and cut it myself? Please let me know if anyone has ny suggestions. Thanks.

Walmart in Canada did mine. They have a booklet with the requirements in it at least mine did, some have been told no at others) Don't do it , either taking them and/ or cropping them yourself it will likely cause problems or delays in my opinion. So personally, I'd try a Walmart in Canada ( if possible) as, even just that far south, it's probably not a request they get often and that's why they can't do it. Just my opinion.

The photographs MUST conform to the specifications required.

Cutting the photo down to the right size is the easy part, but having the face of the subject in the photo, the correct size, is just as important.

Iis there any chance that you can go to online to the website directly for Costco.ca or other photo place that operates within Canada and upload a photo directly and then see if you can size your photo to Canadian requirements and then have it printed and shipped to you (or picked up if you, the sponsor, are in Canada)?

I used epassportphoto.com and had no problems.

Just make sure you get PR photos, NOT passport photos. They are not the same size!

Even though epassportphoto.com says passport it also produces for visa, permanent resident and citizenship. You can take your own photo, size it for whichever one you need and print out yourself for free or have them sent to you for a fee. Worked well for me.

My hubby and I had to drive 3 hours to a place that did the photos to specs. They completely knew what was needed and exact measurements.
We had a REALLY hard time finding the guy but someone told us to call the embassy or consulate and just ask them. We had to go to a major city. (In Texas) Which for us was Dallas. Even our slightly large cities of 150,000 people had NO idea how to get those specs.

I just said "Canadian immigration photographer" in the city or state i wanted and this place popped up. However, as I said, call your Canadian embassy or consulate.

I used Walgreen's for my kids' pics in the US. He had to manually enter the measurements into the computer and it took him over an hour (which resulted in free pictures ) I haven't sent in my application yet though so hopefully they are ok. I had mine done at Black's here in Kingston, ON. They seemed to know exactly what to do there, but they were pricey.

We tried walgreen's also. Only they couldn't manually enter at the time. Also a lot of walgreens now ONLY do passport photos, which aren't the same.
You just have to really do your research.
I don't recall how much ours were, at that point in our application we didn't care, just happy to find a place! haha I'm sure they were pricey too.

I can't understand why can't you just give them the requirements and have them do it accordingly. I did this in BOSNIA, at a random small photographer, and it was no problem. Can't believe that in US, which is so close to Canada you can't get them. Maybe they are just too lazy to try. They all have sizing programs now, and white background, so it should be easy for them to just make it the right size of photos and head.

Sorry to compare countries and all, but my point is that you maybe just need to bring the requirements and then INSIST.

Haha I can't agree more!

The issue in Texas at least is that people literally look at you like you are crazy when you request special dimensions. We are in a little no where area in Texas where the photographers literally know to point and shoot and that's it. You would be amazed at how unbelievably stupid some of them are. Part time jobs where they don't care to learn the details or anything that will not pertain 100% to their job. I'm sure if you were in an area like LA or NY or any large city where people are actually educated it might be a different story. Texans just don't seem to care enough to try anything they haven't done 100 times already.
That is just from my exasperated experience. We even had a confusion sending mail from our post office to Canada expedited. The woman had to ask several other employees to figure out how to do it. yet their sign offered the service.
