Q9 Are you a naturalized Canadian or permanent resident of Canada? I answered Yes as am a naturalized Canadian but then it asks what date did you become a permanent resident and which Canadian visa office issued your immigrant visa
Do I put down the date/office on my yellow landed immigration form (which is when I became permanent resident) or do I use the date/office when I obtained my Canadian Citizenship?

You need to select the more recent status that would be Naturilized Canadian Citizen, the date will be for the most recent status.

It is very clearly asking for when you became a PR, not when you became a citizen.

ok so you think it should be the date on my landing form then...

Exact wording from the form: On what date did you become a permanent resident?

How you are going to manage to fill out this entire application when THAT confuses you is beyond me.

No need to be a jerk about it. There are other parts of the application where you use the date of later of - when you become a naturalized citizen or landing. Obviously, the other poster to my thread thought the opposite of you so it's not necessarily clear cut.
The purpose of this forum is for people to ask questions when they are unclear about the application; not so you can be judgmental and patronizing.

I'm guessing the other poster didn't bother to look at the form and read the question. It is pretty much one of the most clear cut questions in the entire app.

And I'm the only one here who took the time to look at the form and provide you with the correct answer, so call me all the names you want and give me as many negative votes as you want but at least realize that ::).

Hi Guys,

I read the form, the form states Date on which you obtained this status(whichever is more recent)... Based on this I concluded you need to use the most recent status. Canuck can you provide your insight on this.

Thanks

IMM1344, question 7 uses that wording. OP asked about IMM5540, question 9. You cannot quote instructions for a different question on a different form.

Exact wording from question 9 on IMM 5540:

9. Are you a naturalized Canadian or permanent resident of Canada?

No [or] Yes -> On what date did you become a permanent resident?

Exact wording from the guide:

Question 9

Check ‘‘Yes’’ or ‘‘No’’ to indicate if you are a naturalized Canadian or a permanent resident.

If you answer ‘‘Yes’’, provide the date on which you became a permanent resident.

Sorry for the confusion guys.. I never read the form number in the subject... My bad...

+1 for the tenacity.

Thanks Ponga. I've been racking up the negatives in the past few days, just couldn't be bothered to reign in my bluntness like I always (well, usually) do lol.
