Help please!

Q. 8 b) asks the sponsor to provide the date on which (you) were married or entered into the common-law relationship.
We were in a common-law relationship for ten years and married earlier this year. Does the sponsor put in the date of the marriage (and possibly mislead CIC into thinking we have been together for only a few months) or does he put in the date on which we first set up home together ten years ago?

Where it asks if he has previously been in a common-law relationship does he put my name in? Or do they really mean, "have you been in a common-law relationship with somebody other than the person you have since married". To me, the honest answer is "yes" to a previous common-law relationship because we were common-law before. Perhaps I am overthinking things again but its so important to get these forms right.

If you are applying as married, then put the marriage date. Then add an additional sheet of paper explaining that you have been in a CL relationship for 10 years, and got married recently, but because of applying as married, you chose to answer the question that way.

About the second question: the answer is most likely no. What CIC wants to know is if he has been in a relationship with somebody else before ( as in Canada, CL and married have equivalent rights). If he had been in a CL relationship with somebody else, it would be important to show that it has ended (even if the fact that you got married ended de facto the previous CL relationship). So : as for the previous question, answer no, and add a paper explaining that the only CL relationship he has been in is with you, the principal applicant, now applying as married.

Hope it makes sense!
Good luck,
Sweden

Thanks Sweden.
With adding extra pages to provide additional information to particular questions, should I make a note on the form itself (such as: see page xy) or prepare a table of contents for the application and specify things like, "page xy: Additional information relating to IMM 1344 Q.8", for example?

I appreciate your advice - thanks for helping me to make sense of all this!
