Q12 have you stayed in a country of then your country of citizenship for six months or more?


I stayed in Canada wedding year

Jan 2012 to July 2012 5 months 3 weeks then flew out for honeymoon for a week

Flew back into Canada August 2012 to January 2013 5 months


Do I need to select yes for question 12 and gives these dates?

Or is this considered not 6 months or more in one time. As I flew out of the country and it reset the
count?

Sorry, I think it's a "yes", as January 2012 to January 2013 and the fact that you took a vacation/honeymoon from "living" here doesn't count. But that would only serve to HELP your application anyway, IMO.

I would have to agree. If in the same situation, I would answer Yes as well. If they see two 5 month stretches, that is 10 months in a single year, regardless if you took a small holiday in between.

From what I was told '6 months or more' is consecutive if spread between two years, or the total time within a single year if you visited several times during that time.

technically, during the year 2012 you spent more than 6 months in canada so you have to say yes to that.

In My opinion you should say NO

because the question 12 is not places you stayed but, you where you have lived as a resident, previous country's of residence

Q12 previous country's of residence: during the past five years have you lived in any country other than your country of citizenship for more than six months

In many countries more than 6 consecutive months is considered as a resident, less than 6 months is a non-resident because other types of VISAs are less than 6 months (short stay ), I can stay on visitors VISA for years with just getting in and out.


I have being twice to Malaysia last Year, each time on a visitors visa , each visit less than 6 months and if i added up it will be more than six months, should i say i resided in Malaysia , or I shouldn't?
Also I noticed that many countries don't provide a police clearance to non residents, such as Malaysia.

So coming to Canada under a visitors visa twice may not be considered as resident but as a visitor.

For sure upon entry to Canada D_K would say he is visiting (at least to appease the border officials). But again, answering "yes" to living (which you really did) in Canada can only serve to help your application, not hurt it.

Just wanted to say thank you to you all - I've learned so much from you guys
and I can't thank you enough for your valuable time.

I'm gonna select yes and I've made a note / just saying I've not stayed at one time over 6 months
and give the dates.. Plus visa entry stamps photocopy

as the history of me visting my spouse comes up on another form, so just want the form to reflect that.


I hope it's the right choice - all I can say is thank you to you all
