My friend want to sponsor his wife. But he had a criminal record about dangerous driving in last year. Is it he is eligible to be sponsor his wife?

Dangerous driving

Dangerous driving is a criminal offence under the Criminal Code of Canada. Unlike a charge under the Highway Traffic Act, when a person is charged criminally, their photograph and fingerprints are taken and they will have a police file.

Dangerous driving is committed when a driver drives with reckless disregard for public safety and it is punishable to a maximum of five years in prison, depending on whether the prosecutor proceeds summarily or by indictment. The penalty is increased to a maximum penalty of either 10 or 14 years depending on whether the person is found guilty of dangerous driving causing bodily harm or dangerous driving causing death. A person found guilty of dangerous driving will have a criminal record of the conviction and also will lose their drivers license for a period of at least one year in Ontario.

Who is not eligible to sponsor

You may not be eligible to be a sponsor if you:

did not meet the terms of a sponsorship agreement in the past,
did not pay alimony or child support even though a court ordered it,
get social assistance for reasons other than being disabled,
were convicted of
an offence of a sexual nature,
a violent crime,
an offence against a relative that resulted in bodily harm or
an attempt or threat to commit any such offences, depending on the details of the case, such as
the type of offence,
how long ago it occurred and
whether a record suspension was issued (see Sponsorship bar for violent crime below),
were sponsored as a spouse, common-law or conjugal partner in the past and became a permanent resident of Canada less than five years ago (see Five-year sponsorship bar below)
did not pay back an immigration loan, made late payments or missed payments,
are in prison or
have declared bankruptcy which has yet to be discharged.

Other things not on this list may stop you from being able to sponsor a relative.

A dangerous driving conviction is not an issue for sponsorship. There is no need to consult a lawyer.

This is an eligibility question for sponsors.
There are provisions in IRPR (immigration and Refugee Protection Regulation) in terms of what kind of criminality will disqualify a sponsor. In plain words, 3 kinds- crime involves serious violence that is punishable for a max term of 10 yrs and more; sexual crime; assaulting someone who related/relates to the sponsor. It doesn't matter if it is a crime in Canada or other countries. Of course, there are exceptions to these.

If not sure, you should speak to a profession who really knows the criminal Inadmissibility.

If it is just a single driving offence, no other criminal records, I would not be worried at all.

Criminal records and sentencing reports on the convictions will answer the eligibility test in this regard.
